Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son left yesterday and I am still so sad. Please tell me this gets better and what to do. I know he will be ok, but so hard.

Stay busy. Stay involved with those who are still at home. Stay connected to others who are going through the same thing (DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in January). Stay connected to your recruit by writing letters that you will be able to mail once you get The Form Letter. Stay informed (There is LOTS of info for you in the Pages of Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). They are located under the pictures of the Members.)

He is safe; you got the "I'm here!" call. He is being well taken care of. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Check your My Page. I left info for you.

Nicole...now that it has been a week (almost) how are you holding up?  My daughter left yesterday and I am praying that this gets easier.  I am like you, crying at simple things right now.  It's funny how we want our kids to grow up and the military (regardless of branch) is such an amazing experience. I am so proud of her and her decision to serve.  This is just really hard not being able to contact her!

I would love to know how you are doing as well Nicole!

Worriedmom, I am on the same timeline.  My daughter left yesterday too and I got the call last night.  She sounded okay for what I could get out of that short call.  I am at work today and finding it hard to concentrate.  Luckily my manager is very understanding!  Having all the same conflict of pride and loss of contact, honestly both threaten tears. lol  Having you ladies to compare notes with does help!!

Hi BonecrusherMom...work was hard.  Not one person could ask me how it went without me crying.  They all learned to just leave me be.  I'm doing much better now in the afternoon.  We will see what tonight and tomorrow bring.  Hopefully I can get some food down tonight.  I know I need to stay strong for my baby.  Our daughters might be in the same division?  I'm sending you a friend request so we can keep each other uplifted!

My son left yesterday (1/13/15).  When I got "the" phone call, he sounded tired.  I just keep saying over and over to myself... "He's safe and he's healthy." My son did try to do the college thing so he's been away from home before.  It's just that I've just never gone more than a day or 2 without having some kind of contact from him... either by text or phone call or popping in for a quick visit.  Feeling hollow...

My son left (1/13/15) also. It's so hard to not know what he's doing or how he's doing. I find myself thinking of him all day long! I hope it gets easier

Melissac483 - from everything I've read and heard, the mantra of "No News is Good News" seems about right.  But tell that to my heart!  I have to remind myself 100 times a day that he's safe and he's healthy.

Peter's Mom - I'm the same way, I'm so proud of him & know this is the best the best thing he could ever do, but him being my baby & never been away from home this long & I'm not there to protect him is breaking my heart!! So I will remind myself no news is good news!! Hope it gets better, so glad I found this site, it has helped me understand what is going on

Thank you, I just seen it
