Do they serve the whole rest of their contract on the ship? Where they end up depends on their rating and the needs of the Navy. Many will go to ships. It's what the Navy does.

The time of graduation on July 31?  'A' school or Boot Camp?  Which 'A' school?

Passport? Any government issued ID should do.

A school in Maryland not boot camp.

Thanks for your help.I'm new on here and getting info from my sailor is like pulling teeth. Also,do they get to come home during time out on H2O or is that a dumb question? Can they communicate with you, cause knowing him I'll be told his out at sea and he has no way to contact me.

Thanks again,nervous mom

Maryland, mmmmm..... Is he training to be a Mass Communication Specialist? I know that A school is in Maryland. https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/mc.pdf

He should have a week or so of leave after A school. And even if he is assigned to a ship, most of his time will be at his home port, not at sea. He's entitled to 28 days of leave each year no matter where he is assigned. There's no excuse for not staying in touch.

Sometimes I want to smack these kids upside the head and tell them to call their moms! ;)

Thanks for the info.i would have never known! Everytime I ask him how much leave he has he tells me he doesn't know. However,he is coming home before he leaves.Just how much time is my time and friends time is another issue!

Thanks again for all your help and yes I will smack him on the side of his head!Lol Funny thing whence was in boot camp he wrote me every week!.

Meecha rn, most take about 10 days of leave after "A" School. If he does RAP duty with a recruiter and turns in the paperwork at his new command he can get credit for 5 days of unchargeable Leave.

He can check his LES and find out how much Leave he has accumulated. His orders will let him know how much Leave was approved. He should have had to put in a chit for the Leave.

He has more freedom in "A" School than he had in BC and the letters were his connection to home. Now he knows that he can pick up the phone and call (even if he doesn't), so making the effort is not as important as it was in BC.

I left info for you on your My Page.

When my guys came home on leave the rule was 1st and last day are mine anything in between free to do what they wanted.  This has worked for over 30 yrs between 2 sailors.

I'll have to remember that and not be so possessive! Thanks

Actually, it's 30 days of Leave per year (2.5 days accrue for each month of service).

All the ships have military email now.  He may be busy, and have to wait his turn for the shared computers, but it is an option.  Snail mail still works too!
