Thank you for all that information :)
i really appreciate it..
you never really know what your
gettin into ya know.
i have no prior experiance in
the medical area,
so im sure it will be
challenging for me.
but im deffinately gonna
do my best.
i really wanna stay around
here (NC) im thinken charelston
or virginia beach or somethin.
but i guess we'll see.
i really appreciate you taken
the time to type all that out :)

pmgcakes;
i have heard from several different people, one of which is a father of a sailor who graduated 2007 that
your son and i will be in a push divison, in which we will graduate December 17th, and
get 2 weeks leave (vacation) for christmas, since A schools shut down for christmas.
also if your son is active duty, on that 2 week leave. if he goes home,
he can put in a request and work at the recruiters during this time,
and wont count against him as leave days. :)
awh wonderful.
do you know what his time was for the run?
awesome. mine was 12:30
Good Job to both of you! =) Great start. I just bet you and Drew will cut a full minute or more off those times by the end of BC! My son was a HS sprinter... he had cut his time down to 9:30 by the end of BC. They will train and then push you. As you probably know, girls have different PFT/PFA and PT requirements than the guys. Keep up the good work. :)
Ladies, IF you all end up in the same PIR Group, then you will have a N4Ms Meet and Greet to attend on the night before PIR. Used to be that each PIR Group decided when and where, but more recently the Ramada Inn has pulled a marketing coup and hosts a (salty) snacks and drinks time on Thursday night for ALL Navy families who are in town for PIR. (Not just N4Ms)

Now, obviously, this can be a LOT of people, and the food, prices and atmosphere has met with mixed reviews, but more Groups use that resource than not. There are a couple of other nice, family friendly restaurants nearby, where you can get a full dinner, so you may want to start out at the Ramada and then migrate somewhere quieter and less crowded so you can all chat easier and get to know each other better. =) It is so cool when your cyber friends "come to life", when you can hug them and thank them in person. Your Divmates and PIR Group friends will soon be your lifeline! I am still very close friends with a couple of my DIV/PIR mates who I met online first on N4Ms, then in person at our M and G! They are like the sisters I never had. :D
Kathy - I've just discovered NavyforMoms and this branch specific to mom's whose son/daugher leaves in October. I'm hoping to learn the ropes. I don't have any family members or good friends who have experienced a family member in the Navy or other govt. service; I like information and like most I'm not getting alot from my son so here I am! My son is 22 and leaves from Lansing Michigan Oct. 25. I am planning to go to the official swearing in which is either the 25th or 26th and I will get this from my son once he knows for sure. Here is what I know (and it isn't much): GL for recruit training; 8 weeks long; I know about the box, phone call and letter. I know that he is Adv. Elec. and will go to Groton CT after graduation - is this his "A School" assignment. I know to wait to make travel arrangements until a fim PIR is communicated but by my count and due to the holidays I am hoping 12/17. Glad to see that it could be later so I'm not surprised. I know he only takes the clothing he wears, phone card, wallet and $25 - $50. What else do I need to know and what questions should I be asking? I just ordered the book "When the Eagle Invades the Nest"; I've heard its very good.
Welcome MI, glad you found us! My son will be leaving for GL on 10/26, we live on Long Island in NY and a few months ago We hopped on the ferry and went to Groton CT to tour the museum and the first nuclear powered submarine the USS Nautilus. I still get chills thinking about arriving down the Thames River and seeing all the subs in dry dock. The Naval Base is at the entrance next to the Museum, we got to meet alot of vets volunteering thier time, as well a fine "young" men on watch on the Nautilus. If you have an opportunity to Visit Groton, please do. My Son is 19, and will be going to Goose Creek, South Carolina for 18-24 months of A School, after that hopefully will come back (close to home) to Groton to complete his Sub School training and then will be start his 4 yr tour.
MI, have to say, that's more than most newbies know when they first land here onsite! If you learned all that from your son or Recruiter and/or since becoming a member, you are doing pretty well I'd say. Keep reading, gleaning, asking questions and learning. Knowledge is power. Glad you are planning to go to MEPS for his swearing in. :)

Yes, Groton would be his A school. If you go up to "Groups" you should find a Group for Moms whose Sailors share your son's Rating. (Is he AECF? My friend Mary heads that Group up and is a wealth of info about that training.) My N4Ms friend Becky wrote that book you mentioned. I haven't ordered it yet. Let me know what you think. =) Did she also recommend Honor Courage and Commitment to you? A few things have changed since it was written, but it's still good.
Hi MI Lori! Welcome to our group :) I haven't heard about that book, but I'm going to check into it. I have a Kindle so I'm going to see if I can get it on that. You do have a lot of info for just starting, more than I had! My son is Drew and he also leaves October 25. His rate is IT and he will be doing A school in Pensacola. Nice to meet you :) Susan
His rate is his job so IT is Information Technology Systems :) Susan
Hi Betsy:

Lori's are great gals! Our children never quit surprising us. I would have thought that my Adam would have chosen Aviation instead of Subs - I was really very very surprised he chose it but I'm excited for him. Let me know how you like the book; I'll let you know what I think too once I receive and read. I printed a document posted by an experienced mom tonight that tells me alot of good information - things to think about and talk to your rercruit about before they leave - about pictures, taking a cell phoneetc. Stuff I hadn't even thought of. My Adam has six weeks to prepare to BC. When he went to MEPS he thought he wouldn't leave for BC until Feb. or March 2011 but this opportunity presented itself and he chose to leave sooner. I think it will work out best anyway but his head was spinning when he got home from MEPS. Not much time to get PT going. He worked his last night Friday night and will begin focusing on preparing for BC Monday. He has always been athletic but hasn't been doing much besides biking all summer so he has some work to do! I'm not too worried. "What they need to do BEFORE and in the beginning of bootcamp." Not sure if the following link will work but here it goes.

Betsy: Yes, at first the quick turn around was head spinning for us all; BUT, overall, its really great that he will enters BC so quickly. He just ended his job and is wrapping his head around Navy with full force between now and Oct. 25. We have some fun things planned to make the next 30 days really awesome. He has a very serious girlfriend so he will make the most of his time with her. She is a really awesome young lady and very supportive of Adam. He is starting his running Monday! So leaving for BC is called "ships out". Another new term I'm happy to learn! Lori
