Good Morning everyone my daughter graduated on 2/18/11 and her job on her contract as I was reading she sign as a ET. The day of graduation she was change as a FC. She was alittle upset but roll with the punches because is the need of the NAVY.. my questions are . What is the main function of a FC? and what speciality schooling education  can they obtain to take this experiences outside in the civilian population ie jobs wise? An can she opt to change once she has 2 years into this field?

She isn't at sea for 60 months. She is assigned to a ship which may go to sea for her first duty station. That will be 36~48n months, and she might extend for a year after that.  She will still get her 30 days leave each year.  It may be spit up into shorter periods, and it will never be at convenient times, but she will earn leave days.

But even if she had shore duty, it wouldn't mean she could come home any more than her 30 days during one year!  Not like they are allowed to hop planes home for long weekends, and you can't pan for any sailor to get orders close to home.  Kinda defeats the whole "see the world" part of joining the Navy.

Hi all! My son graduated 2/18/11. He was rated "ET". Hold, hold, hold. Finished ATT in Aug. Now he is done with A school, I think (hard to talk to him these days). He is moving from the Franklin to the Cole. I'm hoping he will have learned enough to handle more freedom that I've heard they have in that ship. Now he is on hold again. I've booked his Christmas leave and I'm hoping he will actually be able to make the flights. I think most of the ETs and FCs move to the Cole after C school. I'm still waiting to get the details from him as he is busy packing, moving, and indoctrinating. I also believe he is friends with some of your sailors! I will find out and let you know. Thank you for always being supportive. It has been a long year! ;)

My daughter is on the Cole!  She absolutely loves it there.  The highlight of A school graduation for her was moving back to the Cole.  And she can carry her cell phone during the day now.  Just no walking and talking with it.
