Alma...all of these ideas are great. I did the same thing for my son while in BC. I also sent him printouts of sports scores so he could keep up with all of his favorite teams! LOL He said everyone in his DIV loved getting that from me. I was the only mom that sent that info so they all got excited when that arrived! LOL The most important thing to send is your cards and letters. That is what gets them thru BC. That is the hardest 8 weeks of their lives and yours! LOL I sent my son a letter or card EVERYDAY up until the last week leading to PIR. He got the "most mail" award lol lol,,,,even his drill instructors were amazed at the mail he received lol. Good luck and God Bless you and your sailor :)
Hi. I'm doing the same, have written a letter every day. I've also encouraged others to write her (strongly encouraged my other daughters ;-) I'm a bit worried my daughter will get some blowback for getting so much mail. Should I worry?
If you send them cookies still in the commercial packaging, they might get to watch the RDC's eat them. On the other hand, they could get punished.
I think the policy is no food in the paperwork they send parents from Great Lakes, but I heard about what "Smoke" is talking about too
I sent my son a letter once a week, but I would write a little everyday, the letters were very long and he enjoyed them. If I sent any pictures, I printed several out on printer paper as well. We sent cards too, but nothing too mushy or musical that could cause any embarassment. My son has never been a big e mailer or letter writer, he does best with the phone, so when we received a letter from him it was a big deal! I can't believe it has been almost two years since boot camp, seems like yesterday!
Can I send cash, like $10, in a letter? Is it necessary? She spent $7.15 of the $25 she took with her on shipping charges of the box. Or does anyone know if it goes against her pay vs. cash on hand?
It is credited against their pay. Cash in boot camp is not such a good thing, easy to steal. Yes, theft happens there. It is a sad fact of the Navy, she will always have to keep her things locked up all through her career.
My daughter arrived at BC on 7/14/10 at 8:30pm. She told me before she left that I would receive address info for her within a week to 10 days. Also her recruiter said he would call me with the address. What should I expect?
This seems like the longest week I've ever spent. Thanks for the info. I will try calling the recruiter tomorrow.
i highly encourage singing cards! there embarassing and everybody gets a laugh.
Musical cards aren't received well in boot camp by the RDC's from what I understand...the recruit(s) have to IT till the battery dies or get yelled at..not a great thing in boot camp.
