Hi Renebo, My son has been in Groton since December.  It seems to be a nice area.  Not much to do during the winter but with summer here, the beaches are nice.  Also Mystic Seaport is right nearby!

Went last weekend to visit my son at A school.  I had an opportunity I thought I'd never get.  He had a ticket left from Delta from before he signed up that he had to use and they let him transfer to my name; a friend had time left on stays at the Hampton Inn and hooked me up with a hotel for me and my son to visit in and it was a wonderful time with him.  He graduates in about 12 days and we hope he gets to come home for a short visit before the next orders.  Hoping to hear soon.  I think its hard when you know new orders will be given any time but you don't know what day or where it will tell you; the waiting is hardest.  I like to just know and deal with the knowledge.  At least we know by June 9 the waiting will be over.

My son is in GL for A school. WSe bought a cell phone for him after graduation. He was so talkative while we were there which is not like him. He now has his laptop too and we dont hear much from him. I get upset but he is 25 and on his own for the first time so are the last thing he is thinking of at this time. We have a hard time adjusting to that but we are trying to let him live his life. We just have to hang in there they will call eventually.

@ angeleves: My son PIR was 4/15 and he flew out of GL to SA for Corpsman A school on 4/17. He did not call me until the next weekend but I was able to catch him on Facebook and was able to chat with him for about 20 minute before I received his call. He may just be settling in...

My boyfriend's PIR was on May 6th, 2011. (4 days ago!)  Unfortunately, I couldnt go.  Hes in Mississippi right now for A-School, but I havent received any calls from him or anything yet.  Is this normal?  (His parents didnt give him a cell phone at his PIR or anything.)  How long did everyone else have to wait until their sailors contacted them in A-School?   The wait is killing me!!!!!  :(
