My son Jaylen is suppose to go to ft Sam Houston after basic. He says he has 2 days after graduation to be there? Is that common? Is anyone else son or daughter going there. He is set to graduate in early May? Thanks Jaylen mom

my son has PIR on 4/25, & will be going there also. I've heard they do go to San Antonio usually the following day (Sat.)

My son also is going to San Antonio after PIR 4/25.  I am not sure but I think they don't find out the exact date of departure until about 3 days before they graduate.  However it seems from everything I have read that they usually leave the next day (Sat) from any one of the three nearby airports.  (Milwaukee, Midway or O'Hare).

This is good to know Mom2Bryan because I sent my husband an index card with details to hand to me when I see him at PIR.

thanks mombryan.  our RC just got to BC yesterday and already we're wanting info on PIR and A school :D guess we're going to learn patience thru all this huh?

I also have my SR (husband) going to Sam Houston PIR 4/25 whoop whoop

My son goes to San Antonio as well. His PARENTS is 5/23. One of the Facebook sights says they leave the next day.
Darn auto correct. PIR

Paula my son is going to SH after PIR.  but he doesn't graduate until the end of May (just got to BC yesterday).  i had heard he would have about 1 week before reporting to TX.  did your SR tell you he has 2 days?  We're wondering what the progression is ourselves.  Was hoping to get some time with him before he leaves for A school.

Thanks for this mom2bryan because so much confusion with different days and times :)

If I haven't given this info to you, since your SR has a contract for Hospital Corpsman (HM), sometime between now and the end of BC, join HM (Hospital Corpsman) A School in San Antonio and check out Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program Facebook Page. The Rating Information Card for HM can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/hm.pdf; it indicates 19 weeks, but "A" School is 14 weeks after classing up. Your Sailor will most likely fly out to "A" School the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend to help you know how to plan your weekend.
