Anyone with a corpsman OUT of the service who wants to become a paramedic? My son is attending a school (8 months) where did you get credit for all of the time in the service in lieu of the EMT hours, and it’s covered by the GI bill. It starts in January in Michigan and there’s room for 4-9 more students. Let me know and I’ll put you in touch with them. deedeekornman@yahoo.com

WELCOME new members!

Here's some tax-time info to be sure your corpsman knows about:  Militaryonesource provides free tax filing software.  All active duty, reserve, and retired service members, as well as their spouses and dependents, are eligible for free tax filing services at www.militaryonesource.mil.

Good to know about!  "The new Virginia Military Medics and Corpsmen Program (MMAC), which will be launched on July 1, will help open the door to jobs in the New Virginia Economy to former military medics and corpsmen. Medics and corpsmen receive extensive medical training and experience while on active duty, but some have not yet had the opportunity to receive the civilian licenses or certifications needed to practice outside of the military medical system. MMAC is designed to help create opportunities for these former military medics and corpsmen to apply their skills and training in civilian medical facilities." PDF:  Virginia MMAC Program

Well, a corpsman did it again!  HM1 Jessica Wentlent of Naval Medical Center San Diego has won 2015 U.S. Navy Shore Sailor of the Year.  She received a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal at the ceremony and will be meritoriously advanced to chief petty officer (CPO) later this year.

She topped her fellow finalists: a Legalman 1st Class, Cryptologic Technician 1st Class, Navy Diver 1st Class, and Naval Aircrewman 1st Class.  Story at http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=93914

Bravo Zulu to HM3 Sara Freeman, just named Navy Times' Sailor of the Year!

"It takes a special person to dedicate their lives to be a corpsman, so they are naturally some very motivated individuals, but Petty Officer Freeman is a special individual who exceeds even that high standard that a corpsman brings to the fight," Cmdr. Nathan Almond, Ike's senior medical officer, said.  http://www.navytimes.com/story/military/2015/07/20/2015-navy-times-...

Hi Hootsmom,

Our son graduated on 6/19 and is in Ft Sam Houston, too. He just called and said they had a heck of a time getting to A School. Guess they made the plane, but the train taking them to their connecting flight broke down, so they had to bus it to San Antonio where a car picked them and took them to base. Talk about planes, trains, and automobiles! Lol Glad they made it safely, though. Happy to meet you. :)

Drew7062 I get no names here.  Just thought if they were all in the same class, it's most likely the same young man.  My Sailor said he is the only one who is going to Rota and I think his friend is the only one going to Italy.  My husband was in Okinawa for a short tour.  He said Japan was awesome!

Any moms/dads here that have Sailors who went to Spain?  I've read the list of pre-checklist of things for them to do to prepare and it's a lot!!  Any advice would be appreciated.

BOBBIEH: I don't know the sailors name and if I did I wouldn't mention it here. Gotta be careful of mentioning sailors names :-( but my sailor is going to Yokosoka Japan I'm excited for him
