Hi Robbin and Bingaling! Hope your sailors are getting settled in. Robbin, my son is IT and he waited 3 weeks until his classes started. While he waited he was in a work crew doing landscaping type work. Bingaling, my son is in the CT barracks at Corry. He pays 49.95 a month for gowifi and has purchased a wifi extender. Even with both of these he still doesn't get very good reception in his room. He usually will use his iPad in the IT lounge. I'd have him ask his room mate about reception first. Hope that helps.

So can they have their desktop computer? I e many have taken or been sent their laptop. What's the wi-fi or network connection like? Is it worth the cost of sending the desktop & monitor?

@Bingaling...no he didn't go bowling. He hung out with some of the guys he flew with and then kinda wandered around the base.  He told my husband today that he had a class that spelled out the dos and donts of the base.  I hope they get going this coming week.

@Robbin: My son got there Saturday night. He mentioned reporting for training on the 24th but that's a Sunday, so I"m not sure if I understood him correctly. I assume this week, they are just getting settled and figuring out what's where. Some of the Sailors went bowling Sunday.  Was one of them you son?

My son just arrived early early Sunday morning.  Wondering how long it will take before classes start.  I think he is a little bored.

If you do the courtyard have your son come and show his IDs so you can get the Navy rate which saves you about &20 a night

Another good option is the courtyard Marriott in Pensacola 15 minutes from Corry Station halfway between there and the beaches Also walking distance to Maguires which is very good and interesting place to go and across the parking lot from the broken egg another good place to have breakfast if you don't want to eat in the hotel lobby. I was just there three weeks ago

@ Jen. You can stay at Navy Lodge Pensacola, although, sometimes it seems difficult to find vacancy there. Therefore, plan early or there's also Navy Gateway which always had rooms the times that I visited. Both facilities are on the prominent base, NAS, only a short drive from Corry. You can see the lighthouse and aviation museum that are on the grounds there as well. It's a charming area.

My son just arrived in Florida on Saturday. Looking ahead, we would like to plan a visit while he's in A School since it's a 6 month stretch. Any input is appreciated. Anyone know if we can stay in Navy Lodge?
