OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

CTM at NAS vs. Corry??
My daughter's rate is CTM - I understand that this rate is hugely undermanned. Initially we thought she would be going to A School with the rest of the CT rates and the IT rates - however, she just got to NAS this past weekend and is waiting to Class Up. Anybody have information as far as CTM goes and why that rate would be at NAS rather than Corry? (C school is at Corry after she finishes A) Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My son just completed his CTM training in November. He took the initial course, the Intro to Electronics, at NAS and then transferred to Corry for the second course.
He waited for over two months to "class up" at NAS. He arrived at NAS from boot camp in early March and did not "class up" until late May. He was assigned office jobs during the interim. He transferred to Corry in August and completed the second course at the end of Oct/early Nov.

From what I understand, CTMs are the only CTs that require the ATT classes because they need that extra knowledge for what they do. I read that they can now finish their ATT classes online while in DEP if their recruiter lets you know. Ours didn't, but I believe some of his CTM shipmates went directly to Corry from boot camp.
My husband graduated boot camp in Nov and classed up fairly quickly after Thanksgiving so he didn't wait too long. I think maybe 3-4 weeks from the time he arrived? So I guess it's luck of the draw. His class was really small though. I think he was about a week or two into classes before he came home for the holidays.
He finished his ATT classes last week and is now at Corry. He finishes the rest of his A school at Corry like the other CTs. I believe he'll be assigned a C school depending on how well he does in his classes at Corry and what the Navy needs.

Oh wow.. that would have been good to know, wish the recruiter would have said something... geez. Well, hopefully she will luck out and class up really soon. So - - I guess guess they may or may not go to C school based on what is needed? Thanks so much for the informtion tehlilone!

Can you tell me what ATT stands for? My son has chosen CTM as his rate. He does not leave for BC until June 3rd. He has plenty of time to take the ATT online course, but we do not know what it is. Can you help us?

There is a discussion about ATT on this link. It stands for: Apprentice Technical Training.
It is a preliminary course that CTMs are required to take prior to A School.

My son and dil are both CTM. I have not heard of them being able to take the ATT class online before they go to BC. Once BC is complete she will go to NAS Pensacola for the ATT class. Some waits are longer then others. It depends on how many need this class. As there are other rates that do the ATT also. Once that class is done she will transfer over to Corry Station which is a few miles from NAS. Because of the security clearance she will need to be a CTM the time spent at NAS doing the ATT Class is good as the clearance should be done before heading to Corry. My son and dil like being a CTM. It is a good job. If she wants to study up on something she needs to know her frequency's.

He is in Hawaii now and it sounds like he likes it. Apparently the security clearance process took some time after he arrived there, so he didn't start his job immediately.

Yeah... I know the clearance is a lengthy process. But it's great to lknow he is liking it so far (Hawaii would be a nice place to be stationed for sure!). I wish him the very best - thanks again!

My middle son is also a CTM. He finished all his schooling Nov 2011. He is now stationed in Japan and loves his job. They do keep very busy there. He is assigned a ship but only goes to sea when that ship goes out.
I have heard of them being able to do the ATT class online but was told it was a rumor.
