Dee, E1 thru E3's don't complete in Navy wide exams. You will never find them. That list refers to E4's thru E-6 only.

Melissa- I'm glad to see CTM's still out there. That was my rating. It was suppose to go away in 2007. At the last minute that save it. By then, all of my friends who were CTM's crossrated to CTN's. So these guys have great advancment opportunities since everyone left....

Dee, he will more that likely get orders to Kunia, then they will farm him out to Pearl Harbour for DIRSUP duty. When ships come and go to the Indian Ocean alot of ships have just temporary CT spaces. The way it use to be is the CTM's would come from the Subic Bay Philippines, CTO's from Guam, CTI's from Hawaii, CTR's and CTT's from Clark AFB Philippines, and the CTA's from Japan. We would all meet up in San Diego and ride the ship to the Indian Ocean, stay there for 90 days, then everyone would get off at the Philippines and fly home. The CTI's were the only ones who never stayed to long because we always helo'd them off to support other ships.
God knows why any CTI would ever want to leave Monterey, I would love to fail some of my classes just to stay there for a little while longer....-ha

Jill, I need to know a couple things... What is his rating? What is his NEC (Navy Enlisted Code). What is his TIS (Time in Service)? Did he sign up orginally for 4 or 6 years? Did he already extend? I can easily figure what's best for him once I know this info.
Linda, wow a real RM. God you don't see them often now a days... I wished my kid had the chance of doing the 4 yr thing. You make out so much better than a 6 yr person ($$$). If I were her, I'd put in for a Direct Support (DIRSUP) billet instead of a ship. With DIRSUP you have the joys of both worlds. You're not stuck on the same ship for 3 years, and you get shore duty. Nothing beats DIRSUP in my opinion....

Oh lord have mercy ... waiting onmore info for you to send about that bonus thing.. So happy you've joined !!

Somehow I knew that you would ask that... For reenlistment purposes there are 3 zone levels. Zone A = 4 to 6 years, Zone B = 6 to 10 years, Zone C = 10 to 14 years. So lets say your sailor has to Obliserve for orders for a 3 year tour. Lets say your sailor already has 3.5 years in. So 3.5 plus 3 year tour = 6.5 years. Your sailor would totally miss the Zone A reenlistement bonus (about $30K) depending on the rating because he entended beyond his 6 year point (ie he missed the time frame of 4 to 6 years). Remember, the Navy goes "As entended" when figuring out bonuses. I think I wrote this answer up at another website, if I did, then I will repost here for you.
Comment by Craig on July 15, 2010 at 8:43am
Hey Jill, you might not understand this, but he will. If he obliserve's (Obligated service) for orders, then he falls completely out of Zone "A" for reenlistment. It's about a $30K mistake that alot of sailor make (and the Navy won't tell you about).
