Hey everyone,

My husband just got his contract yesterday, after his second round at MEPS after they had run out of jobs. He didn't pass his NAPT last month, so he decided to just go for intelligence. We just found out yesterday that after he does his boot camp which he leaves in November, I will not be able to join him for his A school. He will be going to A school in Florida, so this is going to be extremely hard. I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this or is going through this? We are trying to figure out ways that we can see each other while he is at A school especially since he'll be gone for our first anniversary. Any ideas or help with this would be great. Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much! I have been stressing on this really bad, we were expecting me to be able to go with him and then when he go this contract it was for just over 4 months so we found out I couldn't go with him. Do you know if he gets a job overseas if I will be able to go with him since he will be entering as an E-1?

Married sailors must be E-4 to take dependents overseas.  Generally, they try not to give junior sailors overseas orders for this reason.  It can happen, but also probably not.  Best thing to do is have him talk to current CTs, possibly on r/newtothenavy on Reddit, and find out where they are commonly stationed in the US.  Then, when he fills out his dream sheet, he'll have a realistic idea of what to put down so you can be together.

If he does well in boot camp, they can bump him up to E-2.  If he does well in A school, there is a chance he gets to pick his orders from a set prepared for that class.

Thank you so much. I will definitely have him do that. We have been trying to get everything figured out with his ship date being so close!

My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years and he just left for boot camp 2 weeks ago. I know that with boot camp there will be no communication for the first few weeks, by the 3rd week they are able to write letters when they can. I know that after he graduates boot camp and goes on to A school he will be able to have a computer and phone.I wold suggest that anytime he can, have hims Skype or text you. My boyfriend will be in Mississippi for A school for about 10 weeks, and I know we have talked about skyping when he can. After A school, he is getting deployed for 6-9 months and will be missing our 5 year anniversary.

Don't worry. It will be okay. Just cherish all the tie you have with him and then the times you get to talk to him.

I've been through my brother going to boot camp awhile back, but it's harder when my husband is going especially since we've never really been apart even when we were dating. I do know they can only write home on Sundays.

Can I ask you what rate he got, and when he leaves for BC? I ask because my husband leaves November 4 and will go to Pensacola for A school immediately after :)

My husband got E-1. He is supposed to leave for boot camp on November 5th. He is going to be going to Pensacola we think right after he graduates from boot camp.

E-1 is just the paygrade... do you know what rating or job he signed for?

He's doing advanced IT. I didn't really know if I was allowed to post that since it's an IS one.

Ratings are okay to post, just not specifically what he is doing or when he's doing it once he hits the fleet.  Have you read the PERSEC stuff yet?  OPSEC is Navy security practices, PERSEC is personal security, not posting personal info.   During training, most folks can figure out what rating given just a few clues.  IT isn't one of the spook ratings, but it is good you are trying to be cautious.

Good news is that an IT has a ton of duty stations to choose from, almost anywhere. Bad news is he will probably have sea duty right off, so he'll most likely go to a ship.

Which coast do you think you'd prefer?
