My boyfriend just graduated bootcamp and is heading to DC to be a ceremonial guardsman. We're planning on getting married during the next two years he is there so that we are married before he goes to A school. Will we be given on base housing when he's moved to A school since we'll be married? He'll be an E3 if that matters. I'm still not 100% sure how all of that works!

Hi Simi,
It depends what A school he goes to. Not all A schools have housing for married Sailors because they are not expected to bring their dependents. You may have to rent in town if you go to A school with him. It is 2 years away you said, do you know at this time which A sxhool he might be going to? Someone here might have more insight on that particular school.

He's gonna be an FC (if he gets the same rate after ceremonial guard) so he'd be going back to Great Lakes

FC at Great Lakes is long enough for the married sailors to have their dependents there, and to get housing or BAH so they can rent.  He will need to put in a Live Ashore packet when he gets to the school.  If his school changes, this changes too, of course.

FC usually requires an extra two years on the enlistment to make up for the long school.  Will they require him to extend?

ok thank you! Yes, he was originally doing 6 years before being chosen for ceremonial guard and now he's doing 8.

You should join the AECF group, or at least read through it.  It can be a little slow there, but will give you an idea about FC.

Aboun18 is right there are maybe 50/50 of the as school that don't let dependants go with them. Secondly he will have to take I think it's a 4 hour class to get married and ask permission. My husband is in A school now and his shipmate that he shares a room with as they do. It allow dependants at his A school had to get a chit to get married and take a class. Thad how I know that and me and my husband are going to be witnesses for them. The ranking of E3 does not matter as he's not at least a E4 so he won't be stationed over seas because he does not make enough to have dependants unless he get orders stating no depandants can come which has happen also
