Hello!

I have posted about marriage during A school before, however I am wondering if my Fiancee's school is about 4-6 weeks, will we have enough time to get married during a school? Hoping he will have to wait a bit to start school, that way we havve more time to get the marriage processed.

If we wait until his 2 week leave to get married, how does the housing work? Will I be able to move with him when he goes in to check in to his first duty station? If I have to wait, how long will I have to wait?

So many questions!

Takes about two weeks to get the special request chit approved, which puts him out of phase on liberty at least.  He may or may not have to take a premarital class/counseling during that time.   Even if you do manage to marry during his A school, with a school that short, there is not much lead time to let the detailer cut accompanied orders for him.   Be warned, often with a short school, his orders are being prepared before he even begins.  You could rush the wedding all you like, he may already have his PCS orders being cut while he's in boot camp.  No way to know, just keep it in mind as one possibility.

A week or ten days after A school is more common than two weeks.  He will barely have ten days of earned leave by the time he graduates.  If he does RAP with a hometown recruiter, he can save five days of leave. It would be a few hours each working day.

If you wait until after A school, you can still move yourself to his duty station if it is in the US.  You'd still be eligible for housing, although it make take a pay cycle or two to see the BAH come in.  He could get you on the housing list as soon as he has you in DEERS and in his record as a dependent.  Some bases will have immediate openings, some do not.  You will need money for the move, so decide carefully what you will spend between now and then.  There is no waiting period to move to his duty station, although you may need to wait for housing or the housing allowance.   If he goes overseas, you probably could not go anyway, as he must be an E-4 to take dependents (I have seen exception waivers for Guam and Gitmo, but no place else).

If we were to get married while he is on leave, before arriving to his duty station, will he be able to live with me as soon as he checks in to his first duty station? Or would he have to live in the barracks and wait for the BAH to kick in?

Right away, although you're looking at out of pocket expenses.  Start saving now.   Some couples choose to let the sailor go on ahead, do the paperwork and wait for housing.  Others go and rent right away.

I just went through this. My husband was not allowed to get married during A school so we had to wait until his 2 week leave. I'm not sure how it works anywhere else but my husband got overseas orders to Sicily, Italy. I had to wait until I was command sponsored before I could join him. He also had to be an E-4. He got to Sicily in January and I am finally going to live with him in August. It really depends on where he gets stationed as to how long it will be before you can move with him. Like I said, I only know about my experience in Italy, don't know much about stateside. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Did he request to go to Italy? Or was he just assigned there because of the Navy's needs?

You don't need to be command sponsored to live with him stateside. The only reason you wouldn't be able to move with him right away were if he were stationed overseas (Italy or Japan). The Navy sends people where they need them, there's not much say in where you go to your first duty station at. And sadly, it's cheaper to send those that aren't married than those that are. That's not to say he will be sent to an overseas station, but it is something that happens and then you do have to wait for command sponsorship.

He did not request Italy. In his class there were very few stateside orders and they went to the people married or with financial problems. He was 1st In his class so he got to pick where he wanted to go, so Italy was the best option he had.

Even though you have had to wait for eight months, you still get to go live in Italy.  Are you excited?

Very excited!!  The movers are coming on Monday!! I just got back from a "3 month Vacation" from there.  :)  It is beautiful in Sicily!!
