Hi! My SR and I have been together for a year and half and plan on getting married. However, he'll have his first orders by september, and neither of us want to get married and rush a wedding that soon.  If we choose to get married AFTER he's already been assigned his first duty station, once we are married, can I go live with him right away?  Or do I have to wait until he has new orders/for some other reason?

The only reason you would have to wait is if he gets orders overseas. If he gets orders anywhere in the US you can move with him. The only difference is you would have to pay to move yourself vs. the Navy paying to move you but you would still get the housing allowance... Just not the money to pay for the cost of the actual move.

okay, great, thank you! He's finishing boot as E2, possibly E3. And E3 doesn't go overseas, correct??

E3 can still get orders overseas, but you have to be at least E4 to get command sponsorship for a spouse to go overseas. So if he were to get orders to Japan before you are married, you would need to wait until he was E4 and got command sponsorship for you before you would be able to move to Japan.

If he gets orders state side, you would be able to go live with him right away, no matter the rank, but you would still need to pay for your own move since you were not on his orders.

I don't believe that's true but I don't know. I have never heard of a restriction on sending Sailors overseas. They do not give accompanied orders to Sailors who are below e-4 but they can still send Sailors who are below e-4 overseas as unaccompanied.
