Hi,

My husband is being stationed in San Diego and finally found out the exact base. Northern Island California.  We were wondering if there were any other military housing besides Lincoln. Also if not  has anybody been station there. They have availability housing in Pormordo Terrace and La Mesa. I just hate agree living  in a area we no nothing about. Thank you :)

Lincoln is the only option for military housing in San Diego. I currently live in military housing in San Diego(River Place), and we love it. How long does he have til he checks in? There are A LOT of different options for housing in the area, and some are better than others. I'd suggest getting on a wait list asap. There's also the hot sheet if you are looking for a quick house.

Thanks Ill check out River Place. He has two months. Thanks I din't know Lincoln was the only place. This is our  duty station so I have no clue what to expect. I think Military housing would be best , but I like to keep my options open.

San Diego is just a super expensive area to live in. If you've got kids or pets, military housing is really your best bet. And San Diego is different from other places, because they offer housing that is below BAH. We only pay $1750 for rent and utilities are included in that, and SD BAH is around $2100.

When I called they said they take all BAH is that true?

Because online I see they have rent prices.

Some housing takes all, some does not.
If you have Facebook you should join the group "San Diego military housing go to guide." It's a great group full of helpful ladies. They can give you all the information you could possibly want about your housing options. Lots of pictures too.

Lincoln is the company contracted with the military to run the housing; there are a variety of neighborhoods.  Most are pretty good.  Pomerado allows pets, but is a 2x longer commute.  La Mesa does not allow pets, and still is a pretty good commute.  I'd choose Pomerado over La Mesa, the area is nicer as I recall.   You'll need two vehicles in any case.

My husband was at North Island, which is on Coronado Island (not really an island).  Too expensive to rent there for sure.  We lived in a condo in Birdland, which is north of Mission Valley, near Linda Vista.  No kids, and two cats (three, but we lied).  I'd been raised in Navy housing, it is better for younger couples, I think.  We still had a ton of Navy neighbors, so don't think you can get away from the military in San Diego.  Anywhere affordable and nice will have sailors renting there.

THank.I grow up in a Military Army town and where i'm from the military housing are are just nightmares. However, the town is not so great either.  I was hoping the navy housing would be different.Thank you  I will check out the Pomerado area.

I saw Yelp reviews of Navy housing, if you want to look for those.  I'd take them with a grain of salt though.

Thank you.  I know people that write on Yelp are usually complaints. I  rented from some places and the reviews were horrible but I enjoyed the place.
