I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

Anna, they can keep their wallet, although some decide to send it back.

Comment by Amanda on July 25, 2015 at 10:38am
Hi! My name is Amanda and I am the wife of a new Navy recruit. He flew to Chicago 7/23 and I received my anticipated "I am safely here" call at 12:38a 7/24/15. I am very excited for him, and nervous for him, at the same time.
The discussions I have read have been very helpful. Thank you to all of the contributors. I am wondering if there might be anyone else in this recruit class or past classes that was a spouse. We have been married for 18 years and this is a significant change for our family. We have two kids and I am just curious about what I should anticipate, if anybody has any words of wisdom, or tips for me regarding the Homefront.

Thank you,
Amanda

When getting the box are their wallets suppose to be in there? or do they have them? I'm so confuse about it.

I am so sorry for your loss.

If they let him take emergency leave, Navy Relief might be able to provide a loan.  Be aware that some commands will not let them go for a grandparent, but hopefully they will allow it.

Hi NavyWife95. I am so sorry for your husband's loss. I had sort of a similar situation happen to me. My mother-in-law has terminal cancer and about a month ago her doctor said she only had a few more weeks to live. After talking with my husband, I called the Red Cross and they were able to take him out of A school for about a week so he could go see his mom back home. He was set back in training about a week and luckily was able to pick up where he left off although he was put in a different class. When you call the Red Cross you'll need all of your husband's info (social, his Chief's or Petty Officer's name and phone number that is in charge of him, and I believe the name and address of the base he's on). Make sure you also have the info of his grandfather's doctor, or someone who can confirm his condition. They will ask you also what you want them to do, just explain the situation and that you're requesting that your husband can take leave and go home for the funeral. Keep in mind that your husband may only have 5-7 days for leave, and as soon as the Red Cross contacts his command they will ship him out typically the next day. They unfortunately will not pay for his ticket, but I don't know if they will lend him the money, I don't think they will. If you have any more questions let me know. Again I am so sorry for your husband's loss.

My husband is in a school and his grandfather just died a few hours ago. They were really close. So I was wondering would he be able to come home? How do I go about contacting Red Cross? What do I say to them? And if they let him leave, will they pay? And if not, will they loan him the money?

My boyfriend is at basic, and graduates in September. I miss him like crazy but the letters and phone call really helped!

Comment by Becca V on July 23, 2015 at 4:19pm
Hi all. Seven years ago, my then boyfriend left for basic. I was scared, lonely and desperate for support. I met many girls through this forum, one of whom has become a lifelong friend and "sister". Together we have been through it all...tears and laughter, marriage and divorce, second marriages (her to another sailor...an amazing man), pregnancy, loss of a child and now cancer. As difficult as it is having your man away from you, you are blessed because you're surrounded by other women in the same situation. Take the time to get to know one another, beyond the drama of navy life. Your new best friend may be on this message board. Without "my sissy", I wouldn't have survived everything I have. I hope other people are as blessed as we've been thanks to this amazing site!

sourpatch, there are some general PCS move guidelines, but nothing step by step, because every move and every sailor can be a bit different.  A lot of the military moving tips online apply to other branches, so check your sources.

and

Honestly, don't stress over that yet.  Get him through DEP and boot camp first.
