Happy Belated New Years to you all and welcome to Janet. I have found this group to be very helpful in explaning all that goes on before A school starts.  My son completed BESS in Dec and is now doing ATT.  Still have no word on when A school will actually begin.  Like Pentwater98 I am hoping to visit my son in Groton sometime this spring.  Anybody got any ideas about when is the best time weather-wise?

I miss my Sailor so much... Weather permitting I think I am going to plan a trip in early March out there... I want to spend some time with my Sailor on his birthday. If it fits his schedule...

So my son was back with us for the holidays. It was hard the last few days not to cry that our time was coming to an end. Stayed up late every night with talking and him introducing me to some new HBO Series, got me hooked on Game of Thrones. He went back Friday.....said it was really hard when he got back to an empty room, felt really weird, since it's been so long without any privacy. Looking forward to graduating BESS and starting ATT

Happy New Year all! Our son returned safely to Groton yesterday...I too held it together until he boarded the plane...good thing he couldn't see me crying in the car on the way home! We will be going to A School Graduation on Feb 2 so at least it won't be another 9 months before we see him again this time.

My Sailor is back at Groton safe and sound... Trying hard not to cry and be sad but it is hard...

Sbarber, I have been a crybaby today, too. I was good until I hugged him as he was getting ready to board. I am trying hard to think of the Navy as extended family he stays with while he works out of town. It is really tough getting used to having grown kids who can take care of themselves. My empty nest feels emptier today. Tomorrow, the pity party will be over and I will be ok. I pray the same for you.

Lorimc, unfortunately they do not come home after boot. They usually ship out the day after graduation. You will be able to see him the day of graduation and usually, you can meet him at the airport and wait for his flight with him. We were at O'Hare for about 8 hours with our son.

Well I'm right there with ya'll my son left this morning on his way back to Groton. I feel like a piece of my heart left with him, hope to see him soon. I am so proud of him but, I just can't shake the tears this morning but, I managed to put on the brave face until he walked down that ramp to his plane.
