Sheilamf to be honest with you I'm not a fan of the restaurants here.. I have been to a couple but have been disappointed :( The only place that I would recomend is a place called The Shack is on RT12 right here in Groton.. You're son might know other places IDK if any of these places will be open on Thanksgiving though. Also people here swear by 99 Restaurant its ok nothing to make a huge fuss over.. The Groton Town House might have a Thanksgiving menu for that day.. It is a Dinner type of thing they're ok also.. You see we're from Jersey so we know Dinners LOL.. But I'm sure you will find somewhere to have dinner that you guys will like .. Even if its McDonald's you guys get to spend it with your Sailor ;)
Subby's Girl, If we come into town for Thanksgiving, can you recommend a good place to go out & eat Thanksgiving dinner with my son & whatever friends he wants to bring along??
Laney, my son's PIR was 10/07. They give them the black backpack now. He just has to have room in it to put the laptop, cell phone & power cords in it.
Sounds good, thank you ladies :)
he can have cell and laptop once he leaves great lakes...you can meet him at the airport after pir and give him laptop and phone there. Has to be in black bag, no markings on bag. We bought a navy backpack at the NEX in great lakes. We also bought new computer at best buy and met our son at airport. If you do meet at airport be sure to go to ticket counter with him and you can get a pass to go to the gate with them.....:)
Will my hub be allowed his phone/laptop at BESS? We were going to go shopping for them after PIR.
Cheri I felt the same way.. Loved it more than PIR.. They really really encourage the picture taking thing..They would stop just to let families take pics of their new Submariners :).. It was awesome..
i went to my son's BESS graduation in Sept. it was great. We got to see the sub base. Got to see the building that my son is living in We spent pretty much the whole day on BASE. Lots to see. Took us down to the sub port , saw 8 subs in port. You will meet your son at the pass gate, its a small building next to the main gate. He will be able to get you a pass to get on base. If you rent a car, bring your rental agreement with you. Will need to show that to get pass. You can drive on to the base. the base is pretty big. In fact when i was there there was a tow truck coming out of the base with two smashed up cars on it. So accidents happen on the base also. Anyways, it was a great time, i can't wait to go back. Wish my son would have wanted to spend more times with his parents. That s whole other story :)
DesertMom.. They have a small intimate graduation a few speakers and time to takes lots of pictures .. I have some pictures of my husband's BESS graduation on my page if you want to see what it is..
