My son will be completing the BESS portion of school in early December.  Can any one tell me about what if anything they do for graduation?  Is there some sort of ceremony?

@Aaron's mom - my son is a radioman too. It was his first choice and is very excited. His PIR was 10/14. I don't get as many txt as I did when he got there. I know they are busy with training. He was pretty bored the first few weeks.

Kathymom.. It is a pleasure for me to have them come here.. I know some of my husband's classmates wont be able to make it home so the fact that they can come here and have a warm meal and just be part of our family is a great feeling..

Ok BESS is 8 weeks long, but it doesnt matter if he did A-school before getting to BESS he will still have to take all the test to get his liberty.. No one gets full liberty when they get here.. They have to do their quals and get their liberty card

Cheri - we are coming from Colorado for BESS graduation on 12/15 too.  Can't really drive reasonably, but we don't care - can't wait to see him again!

Sheilamf - Awesome that you are heading to see him this weekend!

Our son indicated that he will not be able to leave for the whole time during the Christmas 'shut down' because they will still have to stand watch at some point.  We are waiting to see how his leave chit comes out before finalizing our plans as to staying in Groton for a few extra days, or heading straight back home.

Subby'sGirl - I'm so grateful to all of the families that adopt those Sailors, I hope you know that.  It means so much to us that can't be there with our Sailors.  This will be the first year my son has spent Thanksgiving away from us - so we are doing the same thing - opening up our home out here in the west to military that can't go home for a good meal.  I know how much I appreciate the fact that my son will be in a warm environment, so I hope to help other mom's have that same feeling.  Thank you thank you thank you.

During BESS they have to earn their liberty.. He wont get full liberty till like the 6th week when he will take test 3 and if he passes then he will get his Blue Card = Full Liberty kindda .. He will still have to ask to travel more than 120 miles from Base

Laney just a heads up he might not get leave.. While in BESS they are the last ones to get approved :( Cool thing is that you can come visit .. He wont be able to spend the night with you just yet but you can spend all day with him unless he has duty ..
