MarinaMamma: Anything you need answered...just ask. Someone on here will know the answer. There isn't a lot of public info out there for subs because it's so secretive. We did go to our son's BESS graduation and Groton and the surrounding area is beautiful (we are on the west coast). Not sure how beautiful it's going to be in the winter! Sounds like a lot of snow shoveling to me!

So from what you Sailor Moms/ Wives/Girlfriends / Grandmas are telling me is that we have a group of very special Sailors on our hands! Boy does that make me proud!  My Father was a 1950's Sailor and all I hear is Nuke this and that, why didn't he become a nuke? Cannot wait to tell him that his grandson has a special place too!  Thank you all for sharing and making this easier! Glad to hear about the camaraderie, which has not been in the BC division. He is so ready to graduate and be in a more mature atmosphere.

My son said they also have a small fridge and microwave. Not sure if it was there already or if he and his roommates bought them. He said the food is lousy there so he buys food and microwaves it. Also, lots of delivery/take out.

There is a mall nearby, so they can get whatever they need...clothes, electronics, etc. There is a shuttle they can take to the mall. NEX is on base so they can get a lot of stuff there as well.

My son really likes Groton---so different than RTC. This is an elite, smart group of young men and they support each other. From all I hear, the sub family is awesome!

For the newbees going to A-school in Groton, will they need anything besides their basics like shampoo, soap, shavers, cologne, etc.  Are the barricks like they were @ RTC?  Meals provided or will it be like college dorms would be, needing their own foods?

MarinaMamma......the old one will do.  They just use it when they have a free time.  Of course he can find good roommates and pay internet together (my son did all this year) to go a lot to FB, ja, ja.  Like I mention before no electronic in school.  The only thing they need is a nice binder.  I bought one for my son in Walmart really nice for $20, imitation leather (in case that rain).  My son told me that they have in school a desk, two monitors and an executive chair.

hi Littlemiss, My son graduates this friday from BESS, my husband and i are coming for the graduation. Our son is going to meet us at the gate friday morning. Do you know what time we should be at the gate in order to make it to the BESS graduation? We are flying into hartford on Thursday morning and staying at the Ramada in Groton. Hoping that is a nice place to stay....

That's what my son said too when he explained his rate.

So with all your explanations no reason to buy a new computer. His old one should be fine for leisure time on the internet or watching a DVD since he won't need one in class. Thanks everyone for your input.

My son says they have the highest secret rating in the Navy. Cuz they know where the subs are.
Comment by Nana Donna (nanaTo2Saliors) on September 18, 2011 at 11:00pm
I believe any sub rating is TOP SECRET.
