In year round, we teach nine weeks then have three weeks off. One extra in summer, so that I had four weeks off. Then three in October, three at Christmas, three at Easter, then four in summer... Kinda nice, but I miss a long summer. Inhave been doing this schedule since my oldest was a baby and he is 23, so a long time.

NDG.......He don't really know.  He said everything except Virginia.  But he have big time in his heart King Bay, what it will fantastic.  Is 5-6 hours from here, sooooo....crossing my fingers for that.   I wish IB get what he want for him and for you.  What you mean year round?  Summer school or kids go......wao!  Interesting....

Actually I am now in my third week of school, but I am year-round, so I will be off again in October... That's how I can go back for the graduation. I have been watching the "Sharks of Steel" special on the military channel last week. It is very interesting with inside shots of the submarines, so you can see what life is like. It also said that submariners are the top two percent of the Navy, so we all should be even promised of our guys than we are. Good luck with school, and enjoy your time with J. Oh yeah, do you know where he wants to be based? IB wants to be in Bangor, WA. Which is at least on lthe west coast, so I could see him more often.

I spoke with IB and he said he has never heard of guys getting orders so early. He said that it all depends on the job...

Hi NDG....I just talk to J every Saturday, he always call and sometimes in FB.  I don't know what is going to happen when he graduated and weeks go and I don't hear his voice.  I'm soooo used to hear him every Saturday. His graduation is Sept. 15, 5 more weeks.  Then he is coming home for 2 weeks!!!!  Taking a few days from work, I'm going back to work this Thursday and school start Monday the 22nd.  When do you go back to work?  Can't believe yesterday I was saying I have 2 month off and now back to work.  It was a nice summer!!!

Twin Falls Navy Mom.....what is your son job? How long he is been in the Navy?  Never hear a new sailor jumping like that.  A old sailor yes, because sometimes they change and have to do BESS at the end or go for C school for extra depend on what they doing, but new sailor, wao!

I'm confused on a couple of things.  Can someone help me find a link that can explain a little more about sub school/A school? 

My son graduated from what I believe is referred to as BESS on Aug 5th.  He will begin another 4 months of C-school the end of Sept.  This will be over a year of schooling (which, by the way, I am thrilled with). 

He received his 1st request orders to report to WA State after C-school, only to find out a a week later they changed it to Georgia.  Why do they change their location?  What determines who gets their choice?  He is 4th in his class so I would have thought ranking would matter.  We are so bummed he will be so far away since we are on the west coast.

Why do some get sent out right away and some are in "school" for over a year?  I'm not complaining but rather relieved he will be here in the States a little longer.

There is so much information on here for boot camp, but I just can't find help on the above information.

LorieS....It is, ATT and TECNO are usually a month.  Sometimes they offer them to finish a little before.  My son finish Tecno in two weeks.  But also sometimes are hold in between.  They have to put classes together and sometimes don't have in off and have to wait until other sailor finish one class to put together the next group.  Also is sad but sometimes the sailosr struggle a little and they get send back a few weeks.  So never know, the best we can do is pray and encourage our sailor to do their best.  I have both experiences, my son finish quick and with the group he start will finish 3 weeks after him.  One of the kids that suppose to graduated with his original group, struggle a little and was send back now he will finish 6 weeks after the original group.  See, the best is hope for the best but always remember that everything happen for a reason that we don't understand on the moment but at the end is ALWAYS for the BEST.

lynnvickings next schools are att and techno  each about one month each, then A school  my son started a school week after the 4th and should grad out end of November,  Hope this helps
