Gayle - My grandson is in Groton starting his Sonar training.  He finished BESS a couple of weeks ago, now doing ATT and then TECHNO after that A School and then finally C School.  Sonar Tech takes a lot of training and is a very good job.  MY grandson chose ST because of the computers and advancement possibilities

He will be there probably about a year

Hi, Sparkeys Piglet...I'm not sure what happens when enlisted are married, but single men have to earn their phase II & III liberty status.  It seemed when my other son was at GL for A school it took forever to get these phases, but my sub son got his phase II liberty right away.  Phase II they can get off the base, but have to be back on base by a certain time.  I think it's 10:00.  Phase III liberty I think they get to stay overnight and wear civilian clothes.  I can't remember when they get to wear civilian clothes.  I'm sure that's not what matters to you.  Your husband should have Labor Day off--as it's a holiday (if he doesn't have duty).

Hi,

My son went to his first day of Nav school and someone came in and took him and 4 others and said they are going to Sonar??  What??  Why?? Is it test scores, or where they need them? He was given Nav back in BESS. Or is this Welcome to the Navy? Where can they go with Sonar training? I'm starting my research all over.

Thank you HeatherMc.  I just figured he didn't know what he was talking about.  Oh well, hopefully after he finishes FT school he'll be able to come home for a visit.  It will be almost a year since he's been gone by that time.  Thanks for the info!

It's true, no graduation for Techno, ATT, or FT. Next grad is A school if they have that to come.

janh:  Thank you so much.  As I was telling Cheri I didn't know that this was the only other "ceremony" that they would have (at least according to my son).  I hope it isn't so because that makes me hate that I missed it that much more!  Hope y'all have a safe trip back home.

P.S.  My son said you were very nice!!!

Cheri:  We went to his boot camp graduation at Great Lakes so I figured we'd go to the last ceremony at Groton.  He may not know what he's talking about; he's only just finished BESS and still has the other 3 schools to go to.  I'm hoping they do something when he finishes Fire Control Tech school.  Then again my youngest one will almost be graduating from Navy boot camp right after that so I definitely don't want to be traveling all over the country (I'm scared of flying!)

After graduating from BESS on Friday my son now tells me that that was the only graduation "ceremony" he would have in Groton.  He said there are no ceremonies for ATT, TECNO(sp?), or Fire Tech school.  Does anyone out there know if this is true?  Had I known that would be his only other ceremony I would have found to a way to attend.  Please let me know if this is indeed the only ceremony they have at Groton.

Thanks.

Cheri (FT SubMom) [A-School]:  Hate to tell you but you sent the friend request to me instead of HeatherMc!!!  It doesn't matter to me; the more friends I have on here the merrier but if you're wondering why she didn't accept your friend request it's because you sent it to me instead of her!

Hope all of you Navy Moms/Wives/Girlfriends have a wonderful Monday!!!
