Cheri: janh has graciously said she will take photos if she gets a chance.  I'm happy knowing that the sub family is a close one.  That makes me feel good about my son's choice.  Thank you for the info.

HeatherMc:  I finally talked to him last night and now he's telling me he's thinking about fast attacks!  I really just want him to be happy of course but I'm also thinking about how long the deployment is on fast attacks versus boomers.  It's his decision so I guess we'll just have to live with it.  So much to learn!!!!!

My son will be going to BESS after GL.  Could you tell me what items are they allowed to bring and what the restrictions are?  I didn't know if I could pass him his cell phone at the airport once he is checked out of GL.  When do they allow them to wear civies, etc.  Please let me know all of the scoop.  Thanks!!!

Proud NaVy (FT) Mom It's easier to get a boomer than fast attack as they have much larger crews. It is of course all based on current need in their specialty so hopefully he can get what he prefers. They can also at times transfer to their preference later on.

Proudnavy - what's his last name? My son said he doesn't know many first names

Cheri:  Thank you for the information on picking their station.  Do you know how hard it is to get on a boomer versus a fast attack sub?

janh:  His name is Billy and he's 6'4" - kinda hard to miss.  His pic is my profile pic on N4M.  He has a fade haircut; long on top and shaved all around.  I knew you were supposed to be going but I really hate to ask anyone to take a picture for me.  I know you'll be so excited about seeing your own son that I totally understand if it slips your mind.  My youngest son just visited him this past weekend and they took ONE picture.  I was so mad at them!  I haven't seen him since boot so I didn't think I was asking a lot for some pictures!!!  Is your son doing ATT and TECNO(?) next?  That's what mine is doing.  The last school he is attending is Fire Control Technician.  I asked my son once if he knew yours and he said he did (I asked him using just the last name cause I think that's how they usually refer to each other).  I think there are about 70-80 Sailor Apprentices graduating this Friday from BESS.

If you are able to take a picture I really do appreciate it.  If not, I totally understand.  I will be so excited whenever I finally get to see him again that I doubt I'll remember anything!!!

ProudNavyMom - we are leaving CA tomorrow for BESS grad on Friday. Let me know your son's name and I will try to get a pic or two for you (no promises but I'll try). I know our sons were in BC together- same ship I think. Our first time to Groton area. Anyone else need a pic from BESS grad this Friday?

Hello Groton moms.  My son graduates from BESS this Friday. I already received a proof of his "official" picture from BESS.  Does anyone know if the school takes any pictures of the graduating class or if there are any photos available for purchase from the graduation itself?  I live in Mississippi and will not be able to attend the graduation.  Also, does anyone know at what point they get to choose their "dream list" of stations?  I would ask all of this of my SA but he doesn't usually know anything!!!!!  Thanks and have a great day!  P.S.  Any moms going to graduation this Friday??????

My son Graduated BESS July 15, we made the trip from Michigan to CT to see him.  It was a great experience, graduation is very laid back and relaxed.  As long as they dont have duty they get to leave for Friday and Saturday night.  My son was scheduled for duty on Friday but one of his buddies who didnt have family come to graduation took his duty for him.  It was great to see him and spend time with him.  We made a quick trip to NYC over the weekend.  I would recommend anyone who can go to go, well worth it!!
