Hello everyone, I just joined this group.  My grandson is in Groton doing his BESS and has been there since the first part of May.  I believe he graduates or finishes BESS on July 15th or there abouts.  He is studying to be a Sonar Tech and will probably be in Groton for a total of about one year for schooling.  It would love to take a trip out there in the Fall to see him and to see the chance of seasons, not sure if that will happen but it is in the back of our minds.

Well just wanted to introduce my myself and hope to chat and learn some things here.

HI, my son just got to Groton, CT this week. But does not start school for another week and half. Is there graduation after A school? I see a comment from imajagtoo.ship09div207.

I realize this is a subject change but I'd like to thank all of the moms who gave me advice concerning the escape trainer.  I would have been more than happy NOT to know when it was going to happen but unfortunately my son told me.  I worried and worried and found out that he couldn't even do it; his ear drum developed a tear in it so he was unable to complete the trainer.  The furthest he was able to go was about half way.  I'm so glad to know that part of training is over.  Is there anything else that is scary that I need to know about so I can tell him NOT to tell me when it's happening?!?!?!?!?!? LOL  Thanks to all of you seasoned moms for helping us new Navy moms learn the ropes.  I'm pretty much in the dark about BESS and training; there's not nearly as much information out there as there is for boot camp.  My son is keeping mum pretty much about the entire schooling so I don't know anything.  Anything you'd like to share would be more than appreciated.  Thanks again.

To clarify.... Yes Bradley airport always states they're in hartford but actually they're in south Windsor which isn't too far from Hartford... If it was me I would fly in Bradley.... Yeah Providence isn't far but it isn't in CT lol

LoveHunt....during BESS (Basic Training) they get to choose (they list 1,2,3) what they want to do. Most of them get their first choice, so you will know like in middle what exactly your son will do.  They have to pass (pretty sure my son told me 3 big test and 3 quizzes(sp?) if they don't pass they can get hold back after all this, graduation, what it mean they complete basic training and is when they officially call them submariners.  They get a certificate.
