Welcome defiancemom---I will start by saying that Groton is a MUCH better place than BC...for everyone involved. You will have regular daily contact, they're able to relax, and you can visit them, send care packages...whatever!

He will be assigned a room (and 2 roommates) while he attends BESS (basic sub school). They will live in a dorm room and pretty much live the college life...shopping for food, hanging out, going to class, etc..Sub school is learning all the ins-and outs of the subs, and getting familiar with them. He will attend this school for 8 weeks, and then he will have another graduaution. Bess graduation is very laid back, nothing like PIR.

He will call you with his new address (there will be two of them, one for post office mail, and one for UPS mail). You will be able to send him anything he wants. Dont forget FOOD!!...lol.. His liberty priveleges will change every few weeks. Starting with only being able to leave the base in uniform, having to be back at curfew, then to leaving the base in regular clothes, but having to return at midnight, then to leaving the base in reg. clothes and not having to be back until the next morning (just like reporting to a job), and being able to stay away all weekend.

I hope this helps a little. Just ask if you want to know what and when to send him things...

Hello everyone!  My son should graduate from GL on May 6th (fingers crossed).  At that time he is to report to Groton, CT for his A school.  I believe he will be in the SECF program.  Would anyone mind giving me just a little information about what he can expect during those first days and weeks after BC after arriving in Groton?  I would like to be able to give him some idea when we are finally able to get together again at graduation.  I believe he is expecting to depart Saturday, May 7th for Groton and I'm sure he is unsure of what awaits him.  Though I'm sure he is looking forward to leaving GL, at least it was now a known commodity.  He is now faced with another brand new experience.  I guess that is something he should get used to!  Thank you to anyone that can help.

I commented below that Max has evening ATT classes, but now they switched him to day classes...i swear things change by the hour in there.

Also...i still havent had a call about clearance interviews. They are visiting several other people i know today, so do you think they may just show up at my door without an appointment? My son called last night to tell me how his interview went. he said he was never so nervous in his life, and that he couldnt think of ANY names of his teachers or neighbors!!...lol He said his mind went completely BLANK!...i told him that happens...hes glad it over.

Janlee~very sorry to hear that you have lost your mom.

Beth89....a bowling ball : )!!  Wow. I can just imagine that going through the mail.  He must LOVE to bowl.  No address.  My son doesn't want mail.  Makes me very sad!

I am thinking he started BESS on Monday...we have not heard from him (after hearing from him several times every day since he graduated) getting worried, but I am sure he is very busy.

Thanks ladies..for your words.

Max was on hold for 3 weeks. Seven of those days..he came home to visit.

He starts class today. He said he has evening classes..i guess they go 24 hours a day.

Janlee, sorry to hear about your mother. Sending prayers/thoughts for peace and comfort your way.

My hubby has been on hold since Monday and he is already starting to lose his mind! He got lucky though and is painting a mural for the Master Chief so at least he gets to do something a little different. I'm not sure he really paid attention to how long he is on hold for...I asked but he doesn't seem to know. As best as I could decipher his orders it looked like June but I'm not sure, that seems like a really long time. How long was your son on hold for, Janlee?

Ok...thank you so much. That makes sense. lol I have enrolled in DEERS (we have been married like a year and a half...way before boot camp). I definitely hope I get to meet you when I move up there!:)

MirrorMaiden, are you already enrolled in DEERS? If you were married before Boot Camp, he should have completed paperwork for that, and anything else related to you being his "dependent" during P Days at Boot Camp. As long as all of that was completed properly, when he gets orders at the end of BESS for the rest of school, they will be for "accompanied" orders. Your name will not specifically be on there, but accompanied means that dependents may accompany the service member. I *think* if I remember correctly the orders you want are called "342 orders", where as unaccompanied orders that they have during BESS are called "341 orders". I will check with my husband when he gets home though, that part was a little unclear to me. In any case IF he gets orders for ATT/Techno/A school and they are not accompanied, then he will need to talk to the chain of command to get them corrected.

Good luck getting everything taken care of. I know that time waiting around at a house not your own can drag and be challenging no matter how much you love the people you are with. Do lots of things to take care of yourself, things you enjoy that help the time pass quickly. Keep busy- it really does help. I immersed myself in taking care of our son and had several knitting projects going, and was watching a marathon of Stargate SG-1 episodes. :) It might not feel like it being so far away, but remember that you are a Navy Wife and you can handle anything they throw at you! You just need to be assertive about getting your own needs met. And hopefully I'll see you out here in just a couple of months!

Mamamiri- All your info has been so helpful! Thank you! I do have a question...when the time comes how will my husband go about getting me on his orders? He just started Monday, and I too am living with my mom right now. I love her but I miss him so much. Any info on that would be helpful...thank you.
