pdf:  Map of Fort Sam Houston

Directions to Fort Sam Houston:  Directions to Ft Sam Houston/Walters Gate

Car rental:  if you bank with USAA you can get discounts on car rentals.  Log in, go to "Our Products" then to "Travel Deals" (it's under "Shopping and Discounts" on the right side of the page).  Read the deals and click on one of the car rental companies to book.  FYI, sailors who are under 25 can get the underage fees waived by doing this too.

OMG I've held that sweet baby!!!  And wow what a handsome dad!  Oh well, now I'm craving Mexican food LOL  Thanks for these, Britt!

What is the "normal" weather like in mid March? Planning to attend son's graduation and would like to know if it normally is warm, mild, cold, etc...coming from SoCal, where it's almost always warm by March.  Also, are we allowed to stay at Powless if we (us parents) are NOT military???  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I think the weather is usually high 70's to mid 80s this time of year...although I have heard this year has been colder than normal:(

Yes, you can stay at Powless, room rates are 103.91 weekdays and 92.33 weekend specials!  That is including the tax.  They have free breakfast, wifi, movies to check out, fitness center and business facility and a free shuttle to base.  Hope this helps.

Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom, you may want to use this link, as there are additional places to stay on base.  building 1384 is closets the their barracks.  I guess it all depends on what type room they are wanting.  http://www.ihg.com/armyhotels/hotels/us/en/reservation

Thank you - added the link.  Which one is Building 1384?

Thank you amber02888 for posting this in the Comments on July 23, 2015!

"I've gone to visit my fiance twice and we've booked my hotels thru this website: www.ihgarmyhotels.com.

The Candlewood Suites (Bldg 2426) was the perfect location on base, pet friendly and a great hotel overall.  The Riverwalk is about a 10-15 minute drive from base."

Candlewood - great location and staff, very easy to connect with sailor. The kitchenette was very helpful.

Please add your recommendations after your visit so we can keep this Discussion updated!
