Hello all,

Has anyone had their son or daughter have the military id stolen? If so, how was it replaced?

My son tells me he reported it, but was told he had to have 2 forms of id. He doesn't have 2 forms of id because his license and social security card was stolen. He's from Utah so he can't get a new id from the DMV without proof of residency (he does have his birth certificate).

It doesn't make sense that no one in my son's chain of command has required an official report that it was stolen and offered any other option than 2 forms of id that he doesn't have.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Teresa

Unforntuately he will have to get a new Drivers license before he can get a new Military ID. He needs to file a report with PMO if it happened on base or the local PD if it happened off base. I am pretty sure he can use his birth certificate as a form of ID along with a government issued photo ID to get a new military ID.

When my husband's wallet was stolen, he just had to wait until his license came in the mail. We were able to print a form and send it to the DMV in Alabama to get his license though. I know most states allow renewal online or through the mail, but you can call your local DMV to find out for sure if that's an option. He will also need a copy of his orders that he is out of state due to Military service.
Your son can get his Military ID reissued by getting a copy of his birth certificate, a copy of his military orders, a copy of military report, then take that or have you (Mom) take it to get a copy of his state license/ID from DMV or have a new number issued. I would suggest he has all of this when he goes to get a copy of his SSN card and a copy of report he made at military showing his items were stolen. He might have to do a local police report as well if SSN administration will not accept the military report. He needs to get started ASAP because that's a lot of personal information that someone has stolen. Good luck!!
