For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My firstborn Grandson deployed to Iwakuni
Hopefully, someone here will know about that location. Good to know there is a group. He's 18 and we know he's in God's hand but its a big step for us all. Support is always a blessing!

What I know about Iwakuni... it is a Marine air base, although the Navy does send squadrons there too. Shared with the Air Force and the Japanese military. The Navy provides the hospital and medical care. It is near Hiroshima, and the gorgeous island shrine of Miyajima. I haven't been to the base, but I have been to the island. Wow.

Iwakuni is also home of the iconic Kintai Bridge. My dad was stationed there during the Korean War, and took soooo many pictures!

Here is a video of the Marine barracks, I'd imagine the Navy one is similar. Not sure, because junior sailors tend to share rooms in the older units.

Hi gmama, I understand my son is at Iwakuni and yes when we found out it was a hard thing to process at first. So far away. He is there and likes it, he does a lot of traveling /exploring on the weekends. There is lots to do there. We rely on that , that he is in God's hands.

I can point to Iwakuni on a map but not much else. Encourage your grandson to explore Japan and take every USO tour offered. This may be his only chance to be in this section of Japan. Lucky kid.... -

My son is a PR at Iwakuni and so grateful to find someone else whose sailor is there.

My grandson is a SR not sure if 1 or 2. He is a Yeoman. How long has your son been there?

You should start calling him an YN, as SR is just the lowest paygrade of E-1 and he'll be past that soon. Pretty much SR is only used for those still in boot camp, and can be confusing.
Technically he's either a YNSR or a YNSA, E-1 or E-2 paygrade, but that gets really confusing, yes?

Refer to grandson as "Yeoman." That covers everything.........

Hi gmama
How are you doing? My son is at Iwakuni Base and I know your granson is there. How is he liking it
there? I just heard from my son and said things are going good-no snow just a few snow flurries a couple of weeks ago. I have been thinking about you and your grandson--praying for you both.
