Thank you runningintheair and Mark_13 for your information about Tinker housing. My son is an E-3, just graduated from A school, IT in Pensacola Florida. He will be at Tinker by next Thursday. He's sort of disappointed he will not be near a beach (he's from Calif. and loves to surf). I hope there are other fun things to do in Oklahoma. I'm sure every Sailor would prefer to live off base and independently. My son, who is 25, would love that eventually.
Dollybelle, my son is finishing up his C school and has been living in the barracks at Tinker for about 6 months . It's nice that he doesn't have to share a room like he did in Pensacola. I'm not sure what your sailor's situation will be, but my son's room is a lot like a dorm room. He is ready to move ASAP, mostly because he wants the independence of living off base.
dollybelle, your sailor will be housed in "barracks" which look more like a red roof inn. He/she will need transportation, as the distance between housing and work is a bit more than a walk would allow. My sailor just got 'off base' after more than a year and having attained the proper level (e-4,e-5) to be able to move off base. I just got back from visiting.
Hello, can anyone tell me about the housing for a sailor coming to Tinker Air force base after A school in Pensacola Florida. Thank you.
I am looking to find out more information about VQ-4. Their page states they are deployed 5-6 months a year. I do not want anything that would be against OPSEC or anything like that just curious about how we could get more information before selecting it. I have already looked at several websites and pages.
I had just joined the NavyforMoms website earlier (Jan 2014) because my son joined the Navy. But my husband and I both were Sailors! He retired from VQ-4. I am now an RN in the Air Force Reserve here at Tinker. I stumbled on this group and noticed that some folks are either new or just arriving - well the posts were back in November 2014 and earlier.
Navy wife, I hope you have met more people. If you need anything I will see what I can do for you - or anyone else here that just needs to vent or whatever. My husband and I moved to Oklahoma after his squadron moved to Tinker from Pax River Maryland. We thought we would be here only 3 years or so, before PCSing, but that was in 1993 and we are still here! He retired! We lived in Choctaw for 18 years and now live in Edmond. Contact me if you need anything!
Awesome LeAnn! Hope to meet you later this year.
Rhonda - I am in the OK moms group too! Hope to join you at a Meet and Greet in the OKC metro.
If you are ever in OK to visit your sailor send me a message and maybe you can meet some of us OK Moms while you are here. We have meet and greets more often in Spring, Summer and Fall and could possible plan one for your visit. If not, we have several moms who are always eager to meet out of state Navy moms!
LeAnn .... If you live in OK in the summer you should join our OK Navy Moms page so you can come to our meet and greets in the summer!!!
