I dropped her off at the recruiting office and managed to get out the door without breaking down. I told her this morning that while many of her peers are out partying, not studying in college, and otherwise messing around, she is going to serve her country. I am very proud of her.

I was where you are 11 months ago. Still very proud but always concerned. Join the bootcamp moms also but stay here too...helps to have support of moms with daughters.

Thanks! I'm glad I took the day off. Sometimes I feel okay but other times I burst into tears. My daughter is just 18. Mature for her age but still so young. How old is your daughter?

My daughter left on Monday, she is 19, very mature but still very much my little girl. Hang in there, reading the comments on these sites and asking questions from the seasoned guys/gals really helps. It's the not knowing that can be daunting for us. I'm not leaving the house till I hear from my girl. Day 2 and counting

They say it's not always possible for them to call right away. I agree, this site is helpful. I look forward to reading the comments, messages, replies. Sometimes I pretend my daughter is coming home soon, that she hasn't really signed up for 8 years of service. Then I face up to it again, try to think of funny things to tell her in that day's letter.

me too 11 months ago, blm!  mine sailors PIR was 4/6/12. yours?

definately get on the bootcamp moms group.  and when you know her ship, join that subgroup as well.  These people are a Godsend! No one knows what we go through like another mom!

also start writing her now, number the envelopes and when you get the address they will be ready. my girl said letters and pics were what got them through it!

Welcome! N4M hugs {  } !

Thanks! I have started writing her letters. Good to know I can send pics--but she did say that she wouldn't want to Skype, once she's at A school because it would make her homesick.

Hi Deborah. My daughter arrived at BC on the 16th. Welcome to this crazy wonderful adventure!

Thanks, Jazzy's Mom. I got her call today that she'd arrived at BC. No more news for a while.

Momma Bear- I know how u feel.  My daughter left on the 22nd for Boot Camp from St. Louis, Mo.  to Great Lakes.  I didn't get that lucky with getting through the door without breaking down.  It was so hard to let her go, then when she called that night to tell me she made it to Great Lakes it was hard to let her off the phone after 30 sec.  The hardest part after that for me was getting the box in the mail of her civialan clothes and her phone.  I have received one letter so far and 2 calls.  I miss her so much.  Where are u from?  Where will your daughter go for a School?

Hi Leigh!

Nice to meet you. The box of civilian clothes was hard to open and go through. But then I remembered all the posts from other moms who joked that their SR was still sending them dirty laundry, even from afar, and I felt a little better. I'm glad you got in touch. This site is a Godsend. Send me a friend request and we can chat more.

I miss my SR, too. It's not getting easier, I will admit it. I still feel pretty grumpy most of the time and I still cry more often than I'd like. I live in Madison. My daughter will go to Pensacola after RTC.
