@ Paymaster She has her NYY leash and does it count if she chewed up my Yankees socks? In my opinion that means she has pinstripes in her blood...just like me!

glad you are back from your trip to see your g babies. I know you made the most of your time with them. Glad you got time with your officer too. What time On Sat? Yes to Sunday.

2boys1girl09.....Welcome to our group! You are just in the right place to be with a child joining the service. There are no silly or dumb questions here. Just ask anything you need help with. It doesn't even need to be Navy related.

Irishfan,
My daughter became a Hospital corpsman about 3 1/2 years ago, but she was on the waiting list for 10 months in the Delayed Entry Program before she went to bootcamp.

She is so very glad she waited to get the job she wanted. She is attached to the Marines with the Famale Engagement Team in Afghanistan and is totally loving every minute of it. Anything worthwhile and of higher quality is worth waiting for. Especially now with the economy so bad.
Good luck to your son!

irishfan, I have heard of the long wait time. Is that to join the Delayed Entry Program? If not, then they do have to wait until they know there is an opening. Sailors aren't as anxious to get out of the Navy as they used to be so jobs are scarce. Also I believe I heard that this month in the beginning of their new fiscal year so a month or 2 may make a big difference.

irishfan, What was his score on the ASVAB? Because of the high unemployment rate, many more young people are trying to get into the military, so the recruiters can be picky. They don't just take any able-bodied person like they used to.
If he got a high score he is more desirable, also if he is not too picky about what job he wants he will have a better chance. My daughter wanted a medical job but long waiting lists for those. She took a technical job instead.
Your son can should also talk to the other branches of the military, those recruiters may have other jobs available.

Tissue alert: I post this to honor those Mothers who gave their children to protect our freedoms;
Ten years ago today the destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67) was attacked by terrorists while at anchor in Aden, Yemen -- 17 Sailors were killed in the attack. Today we commemorate the 10th anniversary of the bombing of USS Cole, the extraordinary effort of her crew in saving the ship, and our sailors lost that day.
