Hello. My son is DEP right now and heading to Great Lakes in early July. Looking to graduate in early Sept and then head to Charleston for his school. Im wondering from others what the expectations are regarding leave time during school, are they on a certain schedule and any time off is the same for all, or how does that work? WE are planing on heading there for Thanksgiving and Im just curious about how this all looks in reality vs what we imagine.

thanks

Jennifer

First it willows on how long he is there before his classes start and that can be the next week or a couple of months. During A School they are Monday through Friday with study time on the weekend. They usually get Thanksgiving day and day after off.

Dear Blessed, Welcome to the Nuke family! There is a 2 week stand-down during the holidays while in A-school and Power School. All bets are off during Prototype.

When you go to Goose Creek for Thanksgiving, try to stay at the "Villas". They are very nice and very reasonable. Your sailor will have to confirm the reservation and sign you in.

hello!

my son also was a depper then left in july and graduated boot camp in sept. in 2011.   your son might be in A school by thanksgiving.  as tsufish said, it all depends on when he starts classes.  we went down for thanksgiving and had a nice visit with him.   good luck to your son!

Blessed, my son is DEP now, heading to BC in July, and going to SC after graduation too.  I am so excited for his journey, but am a bit of a mess inside.  I have always been a planner and this not knowing stuff is killing me.  Good luck to you and yours in this final count down.

Hello. I wonder if they will become fast friends. We have been on this DEP route for almost a year so I feel like I have had a good amount of time to wrap my mind around all of this. I am excited for his journey as well and really excited to see it all finally get in motion for him. He originally was trying for a SWCC contract when his recruiter approached him with the NUKE option. I was so relieved that he chose that instead. The one thing I know for sure about the military life is you gotta throw the planning thing out the window, everything always seems so up in the air,

Where are you all from? WE live in the Chicago area which somehow makes me feel better knowing BC is close by. LOL

Peace~

Jennifer

hello!

Jennifer--I live in pa.  I too am a blessed mother of 3, all boys.  my son has been in for 5 years now.  he is in HI.  he is a nuke mm.

good luck to all of your soon to be sailors!!

B'sNukeMom - tell you son to keep it in the sling and take it easy.  If it's stable he wants it to stay that way.  The less stable the more likely he'll need surgery.  We see shoulder injuries a lot on the slopes!
