Heading to Goose Creek in two weeks, if all goes well! I feel like I was far more prepared for PIR!! For anyone who's been, I've read through some of the old discussions but I have a few more questions. Is there only one entrance to the base - if I put NNPTC Circle into the GPS will I get there? The invite has a map on the back but it's a little confusing! Also, I'm traveling with my elderly parents, and my mother doesn't walk well but won't get a handicap placard. Is parking far from the ceremony? How early did you plan to be there - was it like PIR where if you weren't in one of Sarge's shuttles you risked a long wait to get onto the base? And seating - is it bleachers like PIR (again with the elderly parents :(  ). Thanks!

Oh, and I'd love to make reservations somewhere to eat afterwards so my parents don't have to stand and wait or battle crowds, etc. Any recommendations? My Nuke is sort of hopeless! He said he only eats at Subway, LOL!

There's not a lot of restaurants near by the base... but a little ways down from the base is a nice mom and pop restaurant called Alex's.  The address is 132 St James Ave (Hwy 176) Goose Creek.  For something a little fancier (or for the national chains) just head toward the airport...

Better yet, head into Charleston and find a fun restaurant with some Charleston flavor!

Haven't been to a graduation yet, but having been to NNPTC to visit our son a few times...

Yes on NNPTC Circle - that's where the main gate is.  Parking is NOT close to the rest of the campus - so plan on whoever is driving to drop the rest off at the curb.  Just look at this Google Maps link:

 https://www.google.com/maps/place/NNPTC/@32.965565,-79.9684735,961m...!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xea8d6b99835c4128

As you can see, everything is a bit of a walk to get to, so renting a wheelchair may be good idea.  Plus if your graduate wants to show you around the campus, that involves a lot of walking too.

Graduations are much more laid back at Nuke School, and the security is a lot less involved than PIR is.

If it's an outdoor graduation, consider bringing sun umbrellas, as the temps are normally up there.

Also, if you have never been to the Charleston area, do please take the time to go sight-seeing.  When we visited, our son he had a list of at least 30 places he wanted us to see!

Kedj, yes you should put Nnptc circle in your gps. We were at graduation last month and stayed on base at the villas. Jumped in the car at 7:10, there was a line of cars already but went pretty quick. The parking is very close by if you get there early. There's no bleachers just chairs in a semi circle. Very easy to come in and out. The sailors giving out the programs will search your bag, so be aware of that. Bathroom facilities at the Bowman Center. The shop for NNPTC souvenirs at the Bowman Center too. If you are not staying on base plan to be on that line of cars no later than 7:15, just to make sure you don't have a hard time accommodating with your parents. Rivers ave. have all the restaurants you can think of. There's a very nice Carrabas at Rivers and Eagle Landing. Very close to base. My favorite is Noisy Oyster in downtown Charleston, that's like 25 minutes from base. There's every kind the restaurants at international ave.. By the outlets, that's like 15 minutes away from base goin towards Charleston. Have your camera ready, as soon as the sailors enter they stand at the back for about 15 minutes to make sure everyone take pics of this amazing boys and girls. Congratulations to your sailor and your family on this awesome achievement :))

The boy wonder mom...do you still have the # for the villas. I am heading there for a school graduation next week. My Sailor did make reservation. I believe I need a pass for the villas, right?

Foster creek villas
500 Pulaski Street
Goose Creek SC 29445
843-794-2120
That's the address for the actual Villas, there's a lock box that you open with the code you are given in case you are not checking in at the outdoor adventure center, mon thru fri 4:00 to 5:00 PM
You won't have problems finding the right gate, they have signs posted. Traffic is nothing like PIR and the seating is chairs that are set up, no bleachers. Parking is not close, so perhaps arrange to drop off. I would think one of the gate guards could assist you on that matter.

Hi Kedj,  I just got back from Goose Creek on Monday (A school grad).  It wasn't a large group and there was no security screening.  The entrance to the part of the school/base is off of Red Bank Road.  We met our sailor at the NEX the night before at 1765 Red Bank Road, and I believe the entrance to the school was only one or two streets beyond that on the left.  There is a sign that reads NNPTC marking the entrance.  EVERYONE there was super nice.  You will park in the student/visitor parking area which isn't far at all.  I don't recall handicap parking, but the person at the gate should be able to give you excellent instructions. Chances are you will be allowed to drop your parents off in front of the venue (we were at the Bowman building) We didn't encounter any insect problem, but you will want to take an umbrella everywhere.

We pulled into the gate about 30 minutes before graduation started and were able to take our time, even visiting with our sailor for a few minutes.  My parents even had time to talk shop with the Master Chief.

After the ceremony our sailor treated us to lunch at the galley.  It brought back memories.

It was a very easy and delightful experience, I hope you and your family have a great a time as we did!

I know someone who had knee surgery just before PIR at GL and I wonder if there is similar arraignments at GC? She got special parking and was met by a SR with a wheel chair. Maybe your son can check.

I will also be there, Jumping up and down daily. Flying in early so my son can show Mom around where he is living. Will be there a week. Leaving on 7-28 to go there.

Anyone who would like to meet up PM me your cell.

My sailor is an EM.

Are the villas walking distance to the ceremony I.e less than a mile?
