Prototype DQ-process of transition to DTP (Directorate of Transitional Personnel)

My son bit the dust this week and is no longer required to pursue his Prototype check-offs. He is presently doing an alternative job at NPTU until his transition paperwork gets processed. He currently lives in a rental and has many furnishings to deal with on top of knowing he will lose his driving privileges when he moves to DTP so he's concerned what to do with his truck as well as what to do with his furnishings. Has anyone been down this road? Will the Navy assist him in any manner regarding his vehicle and furnishings? At this point he has no idea where he will be going from DTP.

Aw Kathy - sorry to hear this.....you might try messaging "Not Da Mama".  His son transitioned out of the program towards the end of proto and I believe he is now in Guam.  Not Da Mama is a great guy and I believe he will be happy to share info with you as to the steps in this process.  I'm friends on here with him so you can look on my page to link you to him.  (I don't know how to put the link to his page here, sorry!).  Good luck to your son and keep us updated.

Thank you! You're the second person who suggested him but I hadn't been able to find him! Will give it a shot. Don't be sorry...we are relieved!

Did you find him on my page?  I think if you go to page 3 of my friends you will see him.  I'm glad to hear this is a relief and it sounds like your sailor is not stressing (now)....Can I ask how far along in proto he was?

Sorry I called you Kathy - meant Kris......typing too fast. I see that Mrs. NDM replied - she can give you good info!  Hang in there.

Have the rules changed at DTP?  I don't remember there being an issue with my son's car, but that was 2 years ago.  His move was at the end of PS, so rental & furnishings was not an issue.  Sorry I can't help on this.  Hope someone else can!

AND so glad your son is relieved.  Mine was and has only regretted that he couldn't succeed at the program, not that he isn't a Nuke.  All the best for his re-rate and much happiness to you and your family.

Hi Kathy... It will be okay... The Navy has an attitude of thanks for trying & we know what we have put you through...If your not bitter about the experience they aren't either... Your son will get to fill out a new dream sheet on where he would like to be stationed... My son failed his last watch (it had to be perfect no errors) he was in Prototype in Ballston Spa and got sent to Groton to be reassigned. There was no issue with his car in fact when the Navy assigned him to Guam they paid to move his personal belongings & shipped his car there for him...he even got a couple of weeks at home before heading out to Guam... I would say he is as happy as he can be while still being in the Navy...he did not loose his rank as 3rd class petty officer & he is still an mm just a non nuclear mm...if anything he beat himself up for failing but we knew going into this that only a very few complete the whole course (1 in 8) If he had a hard time at all; it was having other sailors, when he got to his duty station, treat him with respect because of the crow; he just wasn't used to that at all..so now when he complains about not having his own place, or whatever we just ask him if he would prefer to be a nuke & he shuts up (its just a minor inconvenience mom) and says everything is fine in his world...Best of Luck to Your Son.
