Private PO Boxes are NOT open for package pickup 24x7 - at least they were not back in 2011.

You can pick up mail ( and any magazine that will fit in the box ) 24x7, but packages you have to stand in line at the window, and they have very limited hours for package pickup - that did not work out for our son's study schedule in A school.

We were just in Goose Creek in April for A school grad - son took us on a tour and I saw all the shoes!  Couldn't help but take a picture.  I asked if it was ok to leave them all outside and he said "everyone does it".  Sad that someone stole your sons boy wonder mom.  Like William said - hopefully those types will get weeded out of the system.

CO-Twin... Yes, Yes, and Yes.  They have the ability, or they would not be in the program.  Keep giving them positive input and support.  It does get harder it seems, but remember every sailor is different.  Some may have more of a book knowledge while others have the hands on edge.  My sailor often commented "Tired" and that wasn't just in school,  It also is a fact on the carrier.  He is now home on leave for 8 days.   He had his first deployment  Feb-July.  He told me today that he was qualified (as Nuclear reactor operator) in prototype 2 years and 2 days after he entered the Navy.  There is light at the end of the tunnel. Just continue to give positive support, and love.

CO-Twin - your sailor can rent a PO box, which would make getting packages and other mail easier. My sailor never did, but I'm guessing that moms whose sailors did will give you some info on that.

So all you mom's that have been here for years? do they survive A school? Does it get harder? Stay the same, will they ever get to sleep?

Comment by CO-TwinSalorsMom on July 22, 2013 at 10:04pm

Boy wonder mom I think ours must be together. Mine is Sam, he is very tall and skinny. He started class a week ago today.

Co twin, I just mailed my son a package and I'm yet to hear from him how did it go. He's been in class for a week too and tells me he's on 4 to 5 hrs of sleep. Also tells me the material is not hard but there's a lot of details to retain. Is your son in class 1341?, they had their first test today, praying that everyone did just fine.

His twins A School group is alot of fun.  He was only in school for 6 months and is now on deployment.  This twin though I am feeling stressed for him. It is much longer and it seems a much harder program. I pray for him everyday that he will meet this challenge.  It does help me to have some light chatter to ease my nerves.

Comment by CO-TwinSalorsMom on July 22, 2013 at 9:32pm

My son will not let me mail him anything.  He said it is too much of a pain to go get it.  He has been in class a whole week now.  He said there is so much to absorb.  He gets the material isn't that hard for him it is just getting through the amount he needs to each day is hard,  He gets up at 5 to run and is only getting 4-5 hours of sleep.

I never thought that stealing could happened in Nuke school, were integrity and respect is fundamental. My son is not one to be careless with his money, and he spent a good amount on comfortable running shoes. He is very careful with his stuff but he tells me everyone put their shoes at the door before putting them inside the dorm. It's very upsetting, but it is what it is, got new shoes already and won't give that person the opportunity to steal again, shoes or anything else for that matter, and I agree with William, how can anybody trust someone that its capable of stealing SHOES, with our nuclear warships! My son was angry but got over it really quick, didn't have the time to dwell on it, had a test to take, and a lots of studying to do. Thank you all for listening
