My son had me mail him his cards for D&D! He also likes sports and very much a nature adventurist so he loves the base with all the woods and swampy areas! Said he wanted to rent a kayak or canoe. Said he didn't think the alligators were too big!!!

Hi All. My daughter arrived with a group of 24 nukes last night in GC. They were granted liberty all day today. They went shopping for basics like towels. Washcloths, cleaning supplies, etc. The only thing is the rooms are microwave, frig, ironing board, and trash can. They were issued linens(sheets) but my daughter said they are not soft. They were also expected to use the towel and washcloth issued from basics which I am told were not great.
She and her roommate went to lunch with our relatives, visited the beach and a mini tour of downtown charleston then back to base to finish cleaning the room, doing laundry and have dinner. They were also told that classes would start on April 29th until then they would be in INDOC starting bright and early tomorrow.

Mary:  My son loves D & D.  He even manages to play D & D with his old gang back home via skype.  His friends set up a computer and he skype's his plays.  My Daughter also got into it, because of him.  She said the first time he skyped with his 'old' friends from HS, they were shocked to see him with short hair.  His hair was shoulder length before he left.  His friend said "Gee, the Navy must have a magical silver pair of scissors to have cut your hair"  To which my son replied, 'Yea, well the Navy has a whole closet full of magical silver scissors".  He was a nerd when he left, and he's still a nerd.

Betsyleebig- my son said they usually put them on a FEP which basically it's an extra PT for a certain amount of time til they retest. He said that they had a few in their class but they work with them to get them up to speed. He said he'll be ok just as long as he does the extra Pt things they give him. I'm sure he will be fine.

Debi - hang in there.  Our son had to get medical clearance after bootcamp because he got slightly anemic.  The don't serve enough red meat in bootcamp, trying to keep the fat content down!  Then he also had developed a slight ulcer from the antibiotics they gave everybody (he had to take his orally becasue he was allergic to the penicilliln in the shot) 'caus everyone was sick.  Some of the nukes who were held over at the Temp Holding Unit got sent on in just a few days.  Some, like our son who had requested subs and had to get a waiver for his "history of ulcers" (which the Navy gave him!) take longer.  But he's at Charleston now and starts A school on Monday so it works out eventually.  Just keep encouraging your son.  Sometimes it can get frustrating for them.  We'll pray for you.

I just came from from Goose Creek and I am so proud of our son and his new title as Petty Officer. Enjoyed meeting his new friends and the city of Charleston. Looking forward to going back in Dec.

When I was in, I had a fair amount of contact with both regular ET's and Nuke ET's, since I was on a Subase.  I remember being asked to play D & D and managed to stagger through one game.  My son is an EM, but he plays D & D, and LOL.  He said that they have games there.  The first weekend he was there, he went and bought a 22" flatscreen TV, and an XBOX.  The small exchange that is close to the barracks are well stocked with electronics, I'm told.   We also took him his computer from home.  He and his roomie share the cost of internet in the room, through a router that my son bought ($20 a month each).  He has all the comforts of home.  He also said that their base has the best chow hall.  He said that you know it's good when you see airforce guys driving over from their base to eat there.  The weekend my husband visited, they had lobster.  The weekend that I visited they had crabs.

My son said MM are called 'monkey wrenchers', EMs are 'wire biters' and ETs are something like terminal watchers.
