On my visit, I had a very nice meal in a great low country atmosphere at the Shem Creek Bar and Grill.  It's only a few minutes from Patriot's Point (where the historic ships are, and one of the places to catch a boat to Sumter.  The restaurant is on the way to Ft. Moultrie, which is one of the must sees for the historically inclined.

We did go to Charleston Crab--very nice.  We took the sailor to Gilligan's (close to base on kinda the main drag--and I think there are other locations).

Thursday night all you can eat oysters and /or shrimp. Don't know how they make any money off sailors (and their fathers).  Not fancy, but the food was wonderful.

Noisy Oyster reminded me a lot of Joe's Crab Shack.  Food good and plentiful, but nothing fancy.  Same type of decor.

My son reenlisted to do staff at BS and those 2 extra years are all shore duty.  He hasn't been to the fleet yet but he's in no different shape than before, just a little richer and able to be with his young family for 2 years before leaving.  It's right that this is a decision they have to weigh both sides about.

My son also gave me the distillery factoid. He said he could work at Jack Daniels.  If they pay good money, I just don't care.

Meanwhile, my SIL kept clear of girls while in the navy and hooked up with my nuclear engineer daughter in engineering school.  So, they both are nuclear engineers with 2 masters and many times I can't follow the conversation.  But this is also the child who called me about 2 years ago about how to boil eggs. How does this happen?

My husband was a navy nuke in the 80's he did his time and got out, and now has a high paying job at Nuke plant. Only 1 of his buddies stayed in and is actually I here down at Goose Creek now. He had a family and kids though so I understand why he would stay in. I think he is up for Commander (not positive if that is right position) and if he doesn't get that he is going to retire and still be young enough to get a job at a Nuke Plant or at least do Contract work. I'm so glad hubby did not reenlist, but as you can see both can work out. I agree with William that they should at least be out at sea once before signing bonus.

OK NCNarrator -- there's Hyman's Seafood in downtown Charleston....a little bit of a wait, but definitely good, southern seafood.   Then our tour guide told us about a place called Charleston Crab in downtown Charleston too.   We didn't try it.  Don't know about the wait there.  We tryed TBonz, but it was just okay -- Outback and Long Horn are as good in our mind as that was and were more convenient to Goose Creek.  There was a place called the Noisy Oyster near the mall in Goose Creek, also didn't try.   O'Charley's near the mall is good.  Then of course you have all the normal chains, Olive Garden, Carraba's Red Lobster either at the Mall or the Tanger Outlet.   Good luck.   You won't lack for places to eat.

OK Nuke Moms (and everyone else!) - I need your HELP!  My in-laws are in town from Wyoming (pray for me), so we are driving down to GC today (Friday) to grab my son and take him out to dinner.  Where's a good place to eat in the area?

Also...4+ hours down and 4+ hours back in a little car with my mother-in-law. What heinous crime did I commit in a previous life to deserve this?!  LOL

William my son is a unique young man and I am relieved that he found his calling and his wife.  He did tell me that his ELT training would be valuable in civilian life since he wants to open a brewery!

Lol mariab well it seems like I have to eat my words, your son lucked out.

Comment by William in Nashua on April 5, 2013 at 12:44am

mariab it sounds like your son had a plan which seems like a very good reason to STAR reenlist, because he already knew by then he like the Navy and had been in the fleet a while.
