Pietschie - There is a document they will provide to your sailor.  He probably already has it.  We have a PIR of 1/11 and our SR has already mailed it home for us to read.   It outlines the length of each school, what is allowed.. ie.. when they can wear civilian clothes, leave base, have a car, what type of living facilities they have for each level of school, etc.  I have tried to post a copy of it here before - but it gets removed.  Ask your son - he will know!   Congratulations on your new sailor!  Merry Christmas!

Cathy, how wonderful that your sailor was so thoughtful to surprise you like that.  Couldn't ask for a better Christmas present.... EVER!

To the moms who are sending their sailors to Goose Creek, I wouldn't send too much with them.  They need to carry everything!!  It would be much easier to send the bear  know it is a little costly to mail that first package, maybe two, but in the end, it is probably worth it.

They should have had to file some paper work stating their travel plans.  I am sure your sailor has directions as to what to do when they get to the Charleston airport.

My son was expected home very late on Christmas Eve.  While sitting in Church this morning the Pastor suddenly asked me what I had to be thankful for.  Although surprised that he called out to me from the pulpit, I replied that my son would be coming home but too late to enjoy Christmas Eve with me.  He replied, He'll be here sooner than you think.  Turn around."  I turned around and there was my handsome son in uniform holding a bouquet of flowers.  I jumped up and ran into his arms.  The entire congregation started to cheer and clap.  It was the kind of moment one would only expect to see on TV.  WOW!

I wish everyone and theirs a most joyous holiday season.  God bless our sailors!

Wish all nuke moms/gf and wives a very very merry Christmas. My son arrived home on Friday. He was only delayed by an hour or so. The weather in Buffalo was pretty dicey Friday night. He told me his landing was a bit "exciting". It is so nice to have him home with his sisters all under the same roof again for a little while. May you all have a wonderful time with your friends and family.

Bring all the uniforms, but dont bring alot of other stuff bc they have to keep their rooms super clean.  Just got an earful about how awful it was to have a sloppy roommate.  Also if your sailor plays the guitar, bring it.  Apparently a great stress reliever.

Comment by Michimom (MM Nuke Mom) on December 23, 2012 at 8:43pm

Wow, pietschie, that's a good question.  My sailor went straight from BC to GC so I'm not sure.  He bought his laptop at the Best Buy down there (and it didn't take him long!).

Have you joined the Michigan Moms group?  A great group of moms and we may have a get-together after the holidays, sometime in January.

Oh, and whoever mentioned their nuke possibly working at Jack Daniels' after the Navy, my ELT son informed us that he knows of a former nuke working as a brewmaster at Anheuser Busch.  Hmmmm, my son the Brewmaster.  I don't know about that.
