I'll have to ask Aaron if he saw the new guys today at work, bobbysproudmom. :)

Welcome to the Stennis. :)

My son started his 1st day on the Stennis today!

Connie--My SIL orders alot of stuff online from TackleWarehouse. Bought him a gift certificate from there for Christmas. Had to create a certificate myself to give him though.

Suzan- Grad hold can be anywhere from nonexistent (2 weeks leave then start Prototype) to 6 months. Depends on which rate he is. EMs have had the shortest lately. My husband only had 2 weeks leave and then started. Was never even on Grad Hold. His roommate was EM and had 2 months grad hold. Most MMs in his class were told at least 6 months. ETs seem to have a middle of the road wait.

They don't go to sub school. The training they do during Prototype is actually on a docked submarine. Once he's done with prototype, he'll be out to the fleet unless he does Staff Pick-up (stays at Prototype and teaches for 2 years) or is an MM and does welding or ELT. I believe Welding and ELT are both about a 3 month program (only MMs can do those).

Suzan you might want to join the sub mom website. It is pretty good. Welcome to the world of submarines:)

My son is graduating Power School July 20th. Does anyone have any ideas how long grad hold can be? He has also signed for sub duty. Do they go to another school for that?

Hi Penny, my son is also MM. Been on hold since graduating power school last October.

Connie, my son also started Prototype this morning as well.  He is an MM and rooming with two other MMs very close to base.  Great idea on the fishing gift cart.  My son is hoping to pick up a kayak or something like that to get out on the water.  What rating is your son, Connie?

Comment by GodBlessAmerica on June 11, 2012 at 10:31am

Connie, good luck to your sailor and all the rest starting prototype.  I hope that knee heals quickly and without any lasting issues.   I love your cat picture for your profile.  Life is rough for Miss Kitty! LOL  My animals have a rough life also.

My son takes the WidowMaker tomorrow.  Praying that the whole class does really well.

My son starts prototype this morning along with 3 of his 4 roommates (4th one had knee surgery, wishing him a full and speedy recovery!). So very thankful that he went from Charleston to Ballston Spa, as it's only 4 hrs away and he was able to come home quite a few weekends while on hold (thanks for fixing the fence posts!). Anyway, he plans to go fishing whenever he gets down time and has started to accumulate tackle. Does anybody know the name of the big outdoors/fishing/guy stuff store that's near BS? I'd like to get him a gift cert.
