Thanks to you all for the prayers, the guys made it to Dallas, so we have a very happy momma in Dallas tonight. My son will travel on to the TX panhandle tomorrow. So ready to hug his face!!
Bunker QB - - he will have momma stalking his daily activities for a while, from a distance of course, but as any momma would when a wounded child comes home. He is a strong man but like any other, he has feelings like any of us. We moved his room up stairs to keep him from thinking he was alone, not that is possible with living with his two brothers, mom and dad until he is back on his feet and moves out on his own.
To all - thanks for the prayers, much appreciated!! Best wishes to you and your sailors as they walk their journey with the Navy, in the Nuke program or elsewhere. God's plan is always the best and is not always as we think.
We stayed at the Days Inn on Red Bank Rd, a direct shot to the base down the road. Not fancy, but decent. Met lots of other Navy parents staying there. They give a good rate for graduation/military.
Will be visiting GC for A school graduation on March 23rd. Do you all have any advice about where to stay? First trip to GC and not sure what to expect.
You are welcome Drama. Let's face it. Life would be a lot simpler if everyone one of our nukes does things in a straightforward-get-this-done-check-it-off-go-on-to-the-next-item manner. I have a younger son who even when presented with a clear direct path right in front of his nose has to take the detour. My husband and I can talk all we want, we can show him articles, books, stuff we find on the internet - doesn't matter. He delights in doing things his way. It is just the way it is. Now periodically, he compares himself w his very methodical, successful big brother and starts to feel sorry for himself. Well, I feel like smacking him and hugging him at the same time. No I don't do smacking. But I do grit my teeth and continue to tell him I love him and that he'll find his special landing place in life one day.
Bunker Queen... Where's the like button??
AJM, it's good he has a positive outlook. But keep an eye on him anyway. He (and you) may encounter some idiot who will make a stupid remark. Remember these guys are sensitive about not getting through the program (even if he says everything is great). Don't make a big deal out of it but if you think he needs it, encourage him to talk to a counselor or someone appropriate to talk about "losing out", "dropping out" - let him know that it is OK to be sad, regretful, angry about his separation. He has been bonding with some of the guys for many months. It's hard to restart another program. He'll make it I am sure with your and his family's support. Please tell him THANK YOU for trying.
And AJM, although the Nuke program in the navy isn't for him, maybe a nursing career in some military form could be in his future. There are many soldiers and vets who need a caring and compassionate nurse and it sounds like your son is a prime example. Good luck to him and praise for your upbeat attitude for him!
AJMMom...I, too, offer my prayers. He's going to have an awesome life! Just watch!
AJM MOM, I loved your post. Where one door closes, a window opens somewhere. Sounds like he has a great family and will be just fine. Your positive attitude will make all the difference. It's been said here before, being a Nuke isn't for everyone and if it doesn't work out, it wasn't meant to be and there is something better for them. Good luck to you and your son and God bless.
Sorry to hear about your son, but sounds like he will continue on to another great path. Good luck to you both!!
