Goodness Gracious All.  It's been a long several months for me.  I wonder if some of you thought I dropped off the face of the earth. Just been tooooo busy to be on the internet.  But with Sailor son and College boy home, we dusted off the computer and got back on.

Sheltie, we too enjoyed New Years Eve with Sailor son. He stayed up and Skyped a friend late into the night. He is still sleeping on the couch. Enjoyed not shaving (liberty beard!) His pooch and brother ( yes in that order, I am sure) and is packed to head back to GC to finish Power School.  Will grad on Feb 3, ( hope to meet some of you there!) He is assured that he will be going to BS, so he has sorted through all belongings and ready to have us bring them on our "spring break".  I cried last night while I made cookies for his drive back to GC. His dad is going with him today for 14 hours of bonding in the car.  Then dad will fly home tomorrow. Glad it worked out that way, but sad it isn't me going with. They will be heading out here in about 2 hours, provided they all wake up.  I, too will be trying hard not to cry today, so I am drilling into my head that I will see him in one month. Unfortunately his little brother can't get away from college to see PS graduation. *sigh* very glad and thankful that they were all here for the holidays.  Probably the last one we spend here together given the boys chosen paths and given the health of both grandmothers, probably the last one they will spend with both of them. (sad, but have to face reality,..,stinks, but true!)

Heather~ Your heart will be forever changed.  Emotions that you never thought you could have will well up in you and often catch you off guard, but its a Mom thing for you now.  Our Sailor was a 7 week early premie weighed in at a whopping 4 lbs. After 13 days in hospital, came home and scared me to death to be alone with him.  Now I wonder why.... You will find that anytime you are scared you can call on pretty much any mom who will share a story, offer comfort and give advice (Lord knows, we all have advice!) Enjoy your little one. Read to him all the time.

To all~ Give your Nukes big hugs and be very proud. I am!

Have a wonderful and blessed New Year!

Heather - Congratulations to you and your sailor on your new little one.  My baby - Joel was 21 on the 17th of Dec. (he is not my nuke son).  The year he was born, he was baby Jesus at the candlelight service at Christmas eve.  It was funny - no one thought I would be out yet, so didn't expect us.  I hope things will go OK for you.  After a while you will wonder what you did before the baby, as you will spend hours just watching him.  Don't be afraid to ask some of your friends for help or advice - the first one is a little overwhelming, and being away from your friends and relatives is harder too.  Keep us posted on how things are going and post a pic when you have time.  Glad your husband was able to have some time to bond with the baby before he goes back to the grind.

Hey everyone, it's been a bit since I was last on here. Updates for me include sailor and I moving into an amazing apartment complex here. He is very happy to be away from the base, even if its for a few hours out of the night. He practically lives there and comes home to visit it seems lol.

Oh, and I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on the 19th of December =) After an unexpected return to the hospital, we are finally home and enjoying being parents to this little miracle. Sailor begins work again this week and i'm a bit petrified to be home alone with our newborn. Thankfully he graduates Power school soon and we're hoping for a long Grad-hold. We are also going to find out Wednesday if we are staying here in GC or be transferred to New York. Please pray we get GC... i'm not really up to moving just yet and being even further away from our family now.

I hope everyone had a great New Years. =)

aww, SusanK, sorry there is no depth-diving skype.  I think if we can figure out a way for satellites to reach every one above the sea, we should be able to find some underwater solution too.

I know, not practical when they are running silent, but, on this night, I can sip champagne and wish the impossible :-).

I hope you and your husband are doing well.   For us, 2011 was a hard year, so really looking forward to 2012 being about new endeavors and positive changes.

Celebrating New Year's eve with our sailor on his last night of liberty with us.  Leaves tomorrow headed back to GC.  Has to report on Tuesday so he's giving himself plenty of time to get there.  Next chance of seeing him will be March (I think).  I'm loading him up with lots of goodies so he and his shipmates get a taste of home for a few more days.  Hopefully I won't cry until AFTER his car leaves the driveway!

My son's still on leave here ... his best buddy brought 2 other sailors up from Washington DC for the weekend ... hmm, 4 sailors together on New Year's Eve ... it is my sincere hope that they're eating popcorn and playing Scrabble (yeah, right!). I scheduled a hay delivery for 8 am New Year's Day, so all 4 of them better be upright and functional in the morning!

Penny, get a ny map. Mine shows the base, it isn't actualllly in bs. my kids live in galway. it is out in the country, galway is the smallest incorporated townsnip in ny. it is 11 m to the base. the base isn't owned by the navy, but by the dept of energy, just has a navy presece there.
