Sharon, 07 August has GOT to be the lucky day for "1500" because it's my birthday, and my cousin's, too.  However, I have a few decades plus on Diego.  lol

I will not officially be a Nuke mom until after August 5th/6th, but the gambler in me would sure like to join in the Race to 1500.  I know, technically it's not really gambling since there's no ante, and that's even better!  From the dates not yet spoken for, may I stake my claim for August 6th?  That's the day my son is scheduled to arrive at GC, placing "us" (HIM) among the official Nukes ranks.

(I'll "place my bid" on the Race to 1500 discussion board).  Oh, how I love chocolate!  haha

Thanks mary!! We're driving(only 3 hours south of GL) and staying until Sunday night, just incase, and if he ends up leaving Saturday, then he does I suppose, and we're gonna go to the beach or something. It's all up in the air so we can be flexable. I'm wearing wedges, but I wear heels everyday all day, so i might just sit in the back where you said, so i can bail outta the bleachers and go get my hug(:

PIR will be wonderful! The moment those gates roll up and you see the first sailors marching in, it is the best thing ever...and to first spot your own new sailor...oh my the greatest feeling!! Just a heads up... your sailor may (or may not) get more time than you are expecting. In letters for weeks my guy told me he was flying out Saturday morning, leaving for the airport at 2am. When he got liberty call at the end of PIR he told me he was actually leaving Sunday morning = we got a whole extra day with him! You never know, but you can cross your fingers for that to happen!! Also, I debated about taking the shuttle or driving up until the night before PIR haha....and I ended up driving and would definitely do it again! I couldn't sleep the night before anyways because I was so excited haha so I was up pretty early, anyways. Left for base at about 545 and was about the 7th or 8th car in line. No stress and I was one of the first people in the Drill Hall for PIR...got an awesome seat and was able to look directly at my Sailor during the ceremony!! :) Everyone has a different perspective on where to sit....so I will give you my opinion cause it worked out so great for us. When you walk in there are signs that show where each division will be standing - go the seating that is on the floor and sit in the very top row of the bleachers in front of his sign. We were able to lean back against the back wall, which was a nice break for our backs after sitting for so long...and we were also able to stand during the ceremony. Since we were in the back row, we wouldn't block anyone's view! Some people prefer to be in the first row so they can run to their Sailor as soon as liberty is called, but my sailor just walked towards us and got there by the time we made it down the bleachers!

Have a fabulous time and please ask if you have any questions!!

my vote for 1500 members is.....9/11. Yes, 9/11 because though it was a terrible day in history, it's what the men and women protecting our country strive to prevent again, and i am(as well as many many many others) are very very proud of them. So it's looked as somewhat pride in my eyes, because we're preventing it.

William, thank you for the link for the keepsake boxes - that is the one I was looking for.

As far as when we get 1500 members, I choose 8/24 because that is our 37th wedding anniversary.

Comment by William in Nashua on July 24, 2011 at 10:32am
Mary I didn't know the L in ELT stood for Lazy but the rest of the job description sounds right. Your son is doing a great job hiding the lazy streak by scoring at the top of his class too Lol. Sounds like my son he said reactor operator (ET) consists of just sitting in an air conditioned room in a clean uniform, and pushing buttons all day Lol. They make the job sound easy I think that is how they psych themselves up for the extra study hours now.
Comment by amanda on July 24, 2011 at 10:14am
So here's the latest scuttlebutt straight from the Master Chief of NY. One reactor is down starting November for scheduled upkeep maintenance. Wouldn't be such an issue except Jacob's class is currently the largest but won't be once the next class classes up. Both extremely large classes will be down a reactor in order to get watches, of which they will both be on-crew at the same time, starting about November. THEN, to make matters worse, another class will be starting on-crew right when Jacob's class is supposed to be winding down for graduation (december 16th). So to make a long story short, no one in the near future will actually be graduating in exactly 6 months if they're sent here to NY. Thankfully none of the sailors will be penalized for not making the required watches in time, but you can bet that graduations are going to be more like 7-8 months after classing up (not including any holds going on).
Comment by Binker & Bro: 2X Nuke Mom on July 24, 2011 at 9:16am
My boy had MM as the last on his choice. and he got it. He had a 99 on the ASVAB and that indicated an ET. Not. His best buddy was just over the line and wanted MM. He got ET. He didn't make it. Binker has learned to study, to some extent, but he is one of those "what do you call the person who graduated last in medical school, or at Annapolis (for the clientele, here you see)?? Doctor or Lieutenant! He said that he has been disappointed that it truly hasn't been harder, but he wanted the harder school. I don't know if that makes sense. My lazy boy is still lazy!
