haha. I think that's a great way to spend your savings, Connie! :)
Yeah. I want a "real" wedding. I've been thinking about it a lot. But the whole schedule thing is going to be a pain in my rear. He'll finish proto in October and his leave will expire before Thanksgiving. So for all we know he could be gone by Christmas. We both like the idea of next summer (actually he said he wants a fall wedding), but we don't know timelines at all past this fall.  Plus, my mom is like dead set against me getting married before I finish my degree. I believe she told one person that "I wasn't allowed" I'm trying not to stress her out more than necessary (since she's already stressed enough as it is), but I also want to make my own decision. Which, Amanda, is the reason why I've even considered getting married and not telling anyone ;) Only downside is I love my family and I want them all there... Which with my brother's deployment schedule and Aaron's deployment schedule could prove impossible.

Amanda that is my concern, too with the traditional ceremony - how do you book a venue when you can't give them a definite date until very close to it?! Good grief...seems like the JP is the only way at times haha

Emily, the courthouse route is not a bad way to go, provided you're surrounded by family and a few dear friends. My husband and I got married by a justice of the peace; we're celebrating 31 years of marriage, so I guess it "took"! On the other hand, we've attended extravaganzas (on the order of $300 per person in one case!) that, sadly, ended in divorce (after 6 months for one couple). So ... go with your heart. We spent the money we saved by not having a big wedding on a couple of nice Quarter Horses that we used to teach lessons on ... other people, I guess, might choose to spend their savings on something normal like a house down payment. lol.

Hi All!  It's been a while since I've commented or posted anything here.  We've been a tad bit busy in our house, remodeling my Nuke son's old room to fit the personality of his 17 yr. old sister!  We built a walk-in closet out of an unused nook area textured walls, painted - ah, the list goes on.

I am planning a trip to GC July 21st thru 25th to deliver my son's car to him.  We actually arrive GC on Friday, July 22 and fly out Mon. July 25th.  I know there's alot to do in the area, but what doesn't cost a small fortune?  We're trying to keep the cost of the trip down if possible.  Between gas going down, hotel and airfare for the trip home, things will be a bit pricey.

Definitely going to the beach, but I've heard about carriage rides, ghost tours, plantations......  Does anyone have costs on any of this stuff, or do you know where I can get coupons or discounts for anything?

Any help will be appreciated!  Thanks!

Emily- I am seriously so glad that Jacob and I did the courthouse. Even if you let all your family go to the courthouse with you guys to watch and made it as traditional as humanly/realistically possible, would they still be mad?

I'm starting to realize that planning a traditional ceremony/reception after Prototype is going to be a hassle (but we'll still do it). The hardest thing for me is being able to make reservations and getting vendors who are willing to be flexible. I know how much Proto grad date moves around... I keep telling myself thank goodness we're already married so the paperwork is all filled out. :)

OR you can do what my ex-Marine high school english teacher suggested: get married but don't tell anyone! Yeah... that's so hard for a girl not to brag ;)

Welcome, Sailor'sGurl. :) I'm a fiancee. Hopefully a wife before too long. If I had my way, we'd just do it at the courthouse at the end of the month... but he doesn't want to make my family mad. :)

Lol I've been here since October but still looking around and then stops being active in here because I have Navy wife group of Charleston and Awesome Nuke wives in Facebook so i totally forgot about this group =)
Comment by amanda on July 10, 2011 at 12:52pm

Sailor'sgirl- not really. There are a few but they are not nearly as active as this group is. If you have Facebook, there's a pretty active group of Navy Nuke Girlfriends/Wives. The other option is to friend the few gf/wives/fiancees on here and just private message if you don't want to post it here.

P.S. Welcome to the club :) I'm a wife myself. Feel free to add me here or on FB if you'd like. Where are you currently stationed?

Is there any forums/groups here with all the nuke wives/gf/fiancees?
