yep...not good with the north, east, south, west...I can follow a map, but don't go and say, go north or east....give me a street name and landmarks or a map!!

Question now...the villas you all are talking about..are these the ones on base?  they use to be base housing or dorms or something and turned them into places the guys can rent or would these be some where else?  My son told us about villas off base--close to the beach for like a hundred a week...justwondering...he says they are pretty nice....will definately be checking into them when we go...gonna have to find a long weekend soon to take a trip down there!

No, javajo, we haven't been down to see our son yet.  He was home for Christmas, then graduated A school the end of January.  It didn't seem to make sense to go see him then when we had just seen him about a month before (not that I would have minded!).  We were going to see him the first weekend of May, for my birthday, but then figured the long weekend for the holiday the end of May made more sense.  I can hardly wait!

I think a big part of the reason why I'm OK with waiting until then is Skype!  Love to be able to see my sailor when I talk with him.  Phone calls aren't as good.

On the direction front--I'm pretty good about east, west, etc., but probably because my car has a compass!  But, I really like to know whether it's on my right or left, 'cuz I sure don't have an internal compass.

Michimom~  Have fun in GC!!  Have you been down to see your son yet?  I'm sure you'll enjoy the weather :)

Very interesting Amanda. I read something similar about the differences between men and women regarding mapping in the latest issue of Women's Adventure magazine.

amanda- I love the nerdiness. :) How extremely interesting...

Ok so I wasn't going to be the nerd, but I do gender research in Psychology and A LOT of studies have noticed that females go by landmarks and males go by internal compass. Back when we were cave people, females needed to pick berries to eat and would end up wandering all over looking for them and males just needed to go to the grazing land of animals to hunt. Therefore, females go by landmarks and males go by cardinal directions.

If you are interested, I started a discussion on trips to GC this summer. Thought it would be fun to share our plans and experiences in one place. Wanted to mention it because I know I don't always look above at the discussion section.

Will be in GC for Memorial Day too.  My sons fiance's family will be staying at The Villas, we are staying at Wild Dunes where he will be getting married.  Can't wait to see SC, he says it's beautiful!!

My mom and I have always loved to go on short 1 - 3 day "adventures".  When the kids were younger, we'd pile 3 or 4 kids (depending on which cousins wanted to go or if they were fostering at the time) and off we'd go.  Went to Graceland and all over Memphis for a couple of days and Lord help us, we kept ending up in a very bad part of Memphis because I kept making the wrong turns because she kept telling me when to turn.  It was a BLAST, we still joke about it.  Except, that at one point, my mom tried to be funny and told me to stop at a "cathouse" to ask directions.

When we got home after our adventure, my dad and my hubby were quizzing the kids about what we did (Graceland, zoo, etc). When they were asked where we stayed, my sailor said, "Oh, Ma told Mama to just stop at a cathouse".
