Penny...I second that.  My son wanted his own running shoes immediately and HIS underwear!

For those wondering what your sons may want as soon as possible,  or if they are flying out early .... bring them their own tennis shoes.  That was my son's very first wish .... send MY tennis shoes so I can throw these rotten things away.  He hated those New Balance ones issued at boot camp.  So, if you know your son has a good pair of running shoes that they had at home ... either bring them to PIR along with his laptop, cell phone and all charges or at least have them ready so as soon as you get an address, you can ship them.  My son also asked for his own underwear - he hated the tightey whiteys issued at bootcamp as well.

hapsmother - If he requested EM and MM, then it is likely he will get either EM, ET or MM.... lol.  Actually, it totally depends on the needs of the Navy and they will tell him what they chose for him.  My son requested 1st choice of EM and 2nd choice of MM and they gave him MM.  There is no rhyme or reason to it.  Hope that helps....

Fasten your seatbelt Lamarmama.  They are all going to be long days from here on out.  He will be exhausted.  Tell him to be sure to take a little time for himself each day.  In A school my son always gobbled down his lunch then went to his room for 20 or 30 minutes to just relax by himself.  Sometimes right after class he'd escape to his room too, get on facebook, go have dinner, then off to study.  Now in Power School he doesn't even have as much time as he had in A school.  it will be an adjustment but he'll get used to it.

Thank you so much MN Mom.  I appreciate all of you and all of the thoughts and prayers.

It's weird because I had to ask for a lot of prayers during boot camp too. He had severe shin splints then, and his calves were swollen.  He almost didn't pass that final run, but thankfully made it.  Well, today he found out why he had such problems.  Flat footed.  Plus, the insoles they gave him during boot camp evidently didn't help but actually hindered  him.  That is so unfortunate.  As I said before, I'm not so comfortable or confident in military medical.

Talked with son today and he started classes.  He said it made for a terribly long day. Sent him a box on Tuesday, hope it didn't get lost.

Jeanne.... RTC is moving away from the grad & go terminology because it isn't used consistently anywhere! RTC says one thing, and then the RDCs tell sailors another. Officially, grad & go means you are staying in Great Lakes for A school. Anything else is officially a Saturday departure, Sunday departure, etc depending on the day.

Got a call from my son today. He PIR'd 4/29. Still not in classes. He has been cleaning the base. This week is the last of his INDOC. He is supposed to start classes on Monday.
