That's exactly how Aaron is, too. Well, he's definitely not the official DD. He normally drives everyone to the bar and hands his keys over to someone under the age of 21. Aaron's never had a car before, and his parents were always extremely cautious about when and where he drove (they had a horrible experience with their first kid, he totaled like 4 cars in high school alone), so having his own car is a huge step for him. He loves having it, especially when I go down. Plus, like nvmomma said, he gets a lot of his meals and gas paid for by his friends. He's always taking someone to the mall to get their wedding band sized or to the dentist or out car shopping.

I know not all of you mom's think it's a good idea for your babies to have a car down there, but it really helps them to get away from base and forget about everything for a little while. :)

My son got a 2008 Toyota Corolla S at Carmax in Charleston, 36K miles for $13K. He said they did not charge him tax & license, I think it was because of his military status. I'll ask him again to be sure. He posted on fb tonight that he drove himself 30 minutes into Charleston for Krispy Kreme donuts (they closed all their locations in NorCal a few years ago) - quite pleased with himself. Loves the freedom of having a car. He's the official dd for all his friends when they go out, and he gets most of his meals for free in return. :)

My son said he's only able to spend about half that, so we'll see what he or we can find.  For a guy who loves the super expensive, fast cars, he's pretty realistic in what his needs right now are.  Several years from now, well, we'll see.  He keeps mentioning the Ferraris and other super-expensive ones.  Ha ha.  Dream on.

Michimom- Aaron got his car right before he started Power School. He looked around, but decided on an '08 VW Jetta. I believe he paid 12k for it, and it had just over 75k miles. I don't know how good or bad that is, but that's what I know. :)

Connie, don't feel bad.  I would probably make the same mistake.  My son tells me I'm technologically challenged, but overall I do OK.

I know I've seen stuff here from time to time about buying used cars, and now that my son will be starting power school, he's starting to look, so now I need to pay attention.  Anyone who knows of a good used sedan for sale (100,000 miles or less), let me know.  We may end up buying a car in Michigan and driving it down when we visit him in May, since he said that he's seeing a lot more used cars in his price range here than in SC.  Well, I guess they don't call it the Motor City for nothing.

Emily, lovely necklace.  So sweet!

Those going to PS grad--have fun!  Share your experiences with us, please!

Emily, the necklace is a knockout. What a romantic birthday present!

Dana, you're right about wireless ... I must have been having a duh moment ... we have a wireless printer at home and for some reason I was thinking it was running off the wireless router. I guess there is a reason I'M not in the nuke program! It's a wonder I'm not still using a corded black rotary dial telephone!!!

Mary- I had to share that with Aaron. My mom got a set of hair clippers for dogs for her birthday... She wasn't very thrilled. haha

Darla, and all the others headed to SC this weekend- Have a great trip!!! :)

Comment by Dana (David's Mom) on February 22, 2011 at 10:30pm
Wireless printers are not the same as wireless phones. Wireless printers will work in his room. They only have to connect from his computer to the printer, and the printer can be most anywhere in his room. Ours serves our entire house. Any room any computer or laptop.

That is beautiful Emily.  You are a lucky girl.

What a thoughtful guy too.

This came in the mail for me today...

I think Aaron has definitely figured out the way to a girls heart... :)
