To everyone planning future trips to GC  be sure to get hotel rooms that can be cancelled or changed without extra fees. We were glad we did because our son's September 2019 A-School grad was moved back a week due to the hurricane evacuation.  Most hotel chains give members no fee changes as long as you cancel at least 24 hours  before your stay and it was booked through their website.  Bonvoy (Sheraton, Marriott, Westin) even lets you use your other discounts like Military, AAA, AARP, etc and still earn their points.  IHG (Holiday Inn) usually matches some, but not all discounts.

My son's SLPO told everyone to meet their families at the Mini Nex and drive through the gate together. Our nuke was in uniform and he put his military ID on top of our drivers licenses and we went right through. I guess his SLPO didn't want people calling him.

We got into town on Thursday and picked our nuke up at the Mini Nex and took him out to dinner.

We had good meals at Community Pizza House by the outlet mall and Red's Ice House in Mt. Pleasant. Red's isn't very impressive from the parking lot compared to the restaurants it shares the parking space with, but the food was good and fairly reasonably priced for seafood.

SparkJags, what is the football team doing on the marching band field?  We're a marching band family as well, never could rest in the fall until my daughter joined the Navy.

Keep in mind that fall is hurricane season.  That can change a lot of things so if you buy any airline tickets, make sure you can change them.

ShipofDoodles, I did notice that Allegiant is flying direct to Charleston.  It's a seasonal schedule but may come in handy for you.  They don't show on travel sites, you have to go directly to their website.  I'm flying them this weekend, and really like the airline.

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

Socalmomto3 - I work in Perris - just a few miles from March Air Reserve Base - we hear the planes fly over every day.  Love the sound - especially when the jets are flying!

Canuka - My son is graduating A-School on Friday as well. He said the last couple of weeks were rough! It is show choir season for our HS senior, so we won't go to this graduation. Our sailor is fine with that. He said the A-School graduation will be a brief ceremony because there will be a power school graduation that day as well. Since power school will start in March, we are now trying to figure out how to get to that graduation during HS football season (actually, marching band season at our house).

Scram & Canuka - all the best to your sailors.

If there is PS graduation as well as A-School, be sure to be early to NNPTC. FYI - Red Banks road goes to one lane, I think at least you have to merge over and then they will wave you through the gate but you will have to stop and have IDs out ready for them to check off their lists. You might ask your sailor if they have their SLPO's cell # so that if there is an issue with your name on the list that you may call someone.

Also, you may have to park a distance so wear comfortable shoes. If PS is held inside, they will likely have two graduations, so be sure to follow your sailors directions, they will most likely know more than those standing around outside who you would think know, but don't. (That happened with us, we were to wait in the Galley with our sailor for the 2nd graduation, but they had snacks they were selling outside the Bowman Center, and no one there seemed to know where we were to go!)

If you want to buy memorabilia, the little store closes at noon on Friday, and you might miss out if you are the 2nd graduation. If the weather is nice, they usually have the PS graduation outside.

Canuka - Power school graduation is also this Friday.  Fingers crossed that all goes well with testing this morning, he was not feeling well over the weekend, so hopefully he's in a good place.

Thank you for the welcome. :) I’m in San Jacinto, but teach in Moreno Valley. We are close.

Socalmomto3 - Welcome Aboard!

Islandgirl - glad to hear that things are going well for your sailor. We usually fly Delta to the east coast, because SW doesn't have good connections from our location. I make sure I can book the flights that are at least changeable. We have both driven and flown and usually we were not able to make our flights until we were so close to the graduation that we knew our sailor was likely to pass, but I realize this also has meant we paid higher ticket prices.

3B’smom-
LOL! Love Gumby...& Pokey too! Sounds like I’ll have to be just the right amount of each to get through this in one piece. I’ll check with SW.
