Johanna, that was a great pose! A few years in a row we had wild bees flocking to the clover in our yard, as we don't spray like most of the yards do. I have some good pictures, but not with such a brilliant background.

The Hammer - thanks!

B’sNuke...thank you so much!  It was actually my iPhone! My bees and I have an agreement, I let them pollinate my garden and they tolerate having me be the paparazzi, I was literally right on top of this little guy, less than an inch away...:))). Have a great weekend!!

thesuperm72 - all the best to your family as you deal with both mother nature, and BC PIR closing in!

Kym, it is all dependant on the situation at the time, but my daughter arrived at GC on 11/1 and we were able to spend time with her at Thanksgiving. She had to wears her NSUs but that was okay with us. Your Nuke will be able to tell you more after they arrive, but I'd say the odds are in your favor ,just don't count your chickens before they are hatched

B'sNukeMom, praying for your safety. Here in NorCal we just keep getting the power shut off. It was off yesterday and will be off again this weekend due to wind. Getting laundry and dishwasher run while I can! Thinking tomorrow of getting my essentials together in case of fire emergency. It is a real threat.

My SR daughter has 2 weeks left at BC and then off to SC for EMN school. So excited that this phase is almost done!

Have a great weekend and stay safe everyone! Prayers for all our sailors/SRs!

So in honor of his maiden voyage, I happened to find on Teespring.com a T-shirt with another picture that he had wanted me to share as well.

If you are interested in the T-shirt here is the link:

FYI - They do not always keep their designs available for a long period of time.

It really has come full circle now - my son is on the USS Ford, the namesake of a fellow sailor of his great-great uncle. My mother's uncle served on the USS Monterey with Gerald R. Ford, before he became President of the United States. Whether he will actually see deployment is yet to be known, but he is on the water all the same.

Having just been out to Newport News for his birthday during fleet week and seeing the ship in dock, close enough to see it from behind a fence, seeing the news release and pictures posted today is stirring up all sorts of emotions for me. While in our motel room, my son shared the Snipe's Lament and he wanted me to post it and also another picture for all of you on Nuke Moms. I found the poem in video format. It is not for the faint at heart.

Kym - Welcome to Nuke Moms Group - I don't know if your son would have leave for Thanksgiving, it just depends, that said, there should actually be some time for him to be off for liberty. (Leave and liberty are two different things) - Liberty would be a lot easier, if you were able to fly down and be with him. Depending on if he has a chance to "phase up" to with a class yet or not, will depend on whether or not he is able to wear civilian clothes or must be in his dress uniform. Also, he may or may not have the privilege of being able to stay with you in a motel room. All of these questions are things that he honestly will need to check with his SLPO once he gets to NNPTC. - As for Thanksgiving, they should have the day off and they might have the Friday off as well. If he has started classes, he may need to get study hours in, it just depends. He might have some liberty on Saturday, but most likely Sunday he will need to be studying if he has started classes.

There were some comments several pages back about places to eat for Thanksgiving, and Cracker Barrel seemed to be one of the top choices, even if you had to sit and wait for a table.

Be sure to read my discussion above, Nuke A school daily schedule - … It has a lot of info in it and explains some of the things I mentioned as well.
