Kbpoohbear - I concur with NancyJo... we are here for you!!!

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on October 18, 2019 at 9:16am

Kbpoohbear, we're here for you and I'm so grateful that B'sNuke spoke with you. Whoever this is about, I'm lifting them in prayer and will continue to do so. My family has known the heartbreak of suicide. Hang in there, Sea Sister.

Comment by CSW on October 18, 2019 at 8:47am

BUT, please know I am praying. I know the stress is incredible and our Navy and other branches of the military need to be ready to help lead our troops through this stress.

Comment by CSW on October 18, 2019 at 8:46am

Unfortunately I think our society is complicit in this because we give everyone a participate ribbon and don't adequately prepare our kids for the real life pass/fail situation. My daughter is a teacher and kids get on-going chances to turn in their late papers for grades all through school. Yes, it's diminished points, but this practice has become the standard instead of the exception, so it's no wonder why our sailors, and other young adults, when faced with the real life pass/fail can't deal with the pressure.

KbPoohbear, you and your sailor are in my prayers.

Thanks everyone for the responses to Kbpoohbear. I just got off the phone with her and the situation is being handled.

Comment by SailorsLIMom on October 17, 2019 at 9:48pm

Agreed, this must be taken seriously. Our sailor said that the endless talking about suicide is a problem, in itself. A newspaper article a few weeks ago about suicide in the Navy quoted a psychiatrist who said the conditions that create this situation must also be addressed: The constant testing and pressure when in fact many of these sailors have more than proven themselves. The sealer is not in adequate or failing because he or she might be feeling that way: it is a tough road. Hope you can urge your son to seek help, whether medical or the chaplain. Talking to a friend can also be a good idea, maybe easing some of the pressure of shame or embarrassment. This is certainly something that the Navy cares about.

Comment by Mammagoose on October 17, 2019 at 9:32pm

Kbpoohbear....if they are serious about and asking for help to stop themselves from going through with it, have them go to the  ER.  They can’t not take it seriously.  Even getting permission to go to medical for something as serious as this can be difficult at the best of times.
